Title: Let's talk about the Charlton Athletic game
Post by: selby on October 30, 2018, 03:21:55 pm: Not the ground with our fondest memories and always a tough place for us to go, although this seasons team seem to be a little unpredictable, and depends which team turn up on the day.
We should have a couple of players back in defence, which can only strengthen the squad, and I expect us to field as near to our usual side as possible, at least we cannot say Grant has no idea what his beat team is, he obviously does.
Charlton's home record is won 4 drawn 2 lost 2 with 11 goals for and 8 against, so are not unbeatable at home and we are due a little luck in front of goal.
The last few games against them they have singled Coppinger and Rowe out for special attention, so I am expecting Kane and Coppinger to be a target.
Their recent form has not been much better than ourselves, but a home win in their last home game against Barnsley shows they can be dangerous.
Can we get back to winning ways?

No not going to the game.

Well Mason and Butler should come back in.
Blair to go back into the middle three, because as yet we don’t have anybody better. Unless Anderson J has shown more in training.
Front three, well I’m not sure there’s talk about Taylor but he’s not a striker so does he come in for Copps. Or does the manager change his preferred formation. Another loss would drop us down the table, players confidence would be affected and we will find it hard to regain the playoff position until we can strengthen the side in the next transfer window.

Since the win at home to Barnsley Brian, they've played Oxford at home in the league, and only managed a 1-1 draw, with their only goal coming from the penalty spot.

Post by: selby on November 01, 2018, 07:52:47 am: I hope the exiles in the London area turn up in numbers for this game, we normally have quite a few when we play down there, which is great to see.
It would be nice for us to play well and give them a chance to see the entertaining brand of football we have been mostly watching this season. And if we can dish out a battering, it would make me feel better after feeling I have had my trousers pulled down in the past.

Yes, I checked yesterday. Although they are £3 more expensive on the day. Last year I paid on the day at a hut just outside the away end turnstile.

They will be. They are grateful for anyone to turn up and watch them. There should be about ten seats per person, probably more in the train spotters stands.

And their main striker, Lyle Taylor, is very doubtful for them, and they've other injuries.

It's looking like it could be two weakened teams.

Wasn't a dig by the way, just a suggestion as it saves people having to ask if there's already something there and it comes up every away game virtually.

Great idea - should be a "STICKY" maybe but ll content to be removed when a Game has gone - allowing it to start again with the next Game

Apart from the earlier report of the possibility of two may miss the game, who they may be? and will they miss the game? has not been given discussed openly at all as far as I know.

That was one poor performance with too many players off form.

Both full backs were poor, Blair's worst game for me, Centre back Anderson will have nightmares tonight he just could not cope with one on ones. Taylor subbed early on seemed to be gasping for air and did not look fit.

As for shooting, not many on target today, crosses, I did see one or two good ones late on.

Their second goal summed everything up for me very poor defending.

Donny huffed and puffed but there was no end result and we never looked like scoring.

Two positives from the game that I can recall was the first 15mins we looked like a good team, how wrong you can be. That boy Kane, at 19, he is too good for Donny already.

Its going to be a tough season, the manager and his team still get my full support.

Whiteman was also off it, and the substitutions changed nothing. Kane is outstanding as a footballer, but is not as effective around their penalty area in attack, something he has to improve to get to the very top, but he has it in him.
Our attacking substitutions didn't improve much, and Wilks looks as though he has other things on his mind. The distribution of Our midfield (Kane and Coppinger excepted) made it difficult for anyone else to shine,and Blair and Mason being given the runaround made Anderson's game hard, drawing him into areas he is uncomfortable with.
We have to get back to a bit of form, or this season will be over in the next few weeks, on this form Chorley and Notts County will fancy their chances.
