Far too many on here getting their “ blame “ fingers ready to do some pointing...
So as the title says....
Realistically where do you expect DRFC to be at the end of the season?
I will be happy with 10th, 9th or 8th, anything more is a real bonus...
-
I havent seen many teams much better than us so far,so if we can keep our 2 loan players and add another one or two players in Jan, play offs are achievable. We need to get out of this losing run sharpish though.

12th

I agree with you, anything better than 10th will be a decent season as we have a new manager and he will want to make a few personnel changes next summer I am sure. What he has achieved so far has been very encouraging as this is DF’s squad other than Kane & Wilks. We look like a new team altogether so that is of great credit to GM.
To answer your question I genuinely think with one quality striker addition in January we will get a play off place.
So I will go with 5th with that addition and 8th without it.
That of course on both counts is assuming we keep Kane & Wilks ( trial permitting ) to the end of the season.

1. With the current 11 & no major injuries, 8th
2. With injuries to key players, bans, etc. 14th.
3. With current 11, no major injuries, & 2 or 3 players added in January, promotion.

Top six

Top six
-
Top 6 is certainly within our capability.
-
A safe, mid table
-
Somewhere 10th to 5th for me but cautiously optimistic we can do better. We're the better team in most games but we need to cut out the silly mistakes and start capitalising on our chances more often...obvious I know, but there we are.
-
10th for me
Head says that - Heart hopes for "better"

7th

12, 11,10, 9,8th what ever you think out of them the club employed GM to be top 6 as in the job spec

I haven't seen another team as technically good as us in the league. To see pompey so high is irritating after we dominated them at home! I reckon we're good for the playoff's if our strikers can maintain a decent level of form (john is either scoring for fun or not at all atm) or we can sign another forward to keep us taking the many chances we make then playoffs are surely realistic.
After last season i'd be happy with anything top 10, entertaining football and a sense that we're going in the right direction which currently we're doing.

Do you think he should be sacked the moment a top 6 finish is unachievable? And the question is where do you think we will finish not where have the club employed their manager to finish

They didn't say "get us into the Play Offs or get the sack" though did they? This has always been a long term project, at this stage of the squad's development and, considering the change in management in the summer, I'd say that finishing between 7th and 12th would represent acceptable progress this season. If we achieve that then we can raise the expectations slightly again for next season.
-
Nobody is saying that GM should be sacked if we don’t get in the top six.
The manager when asked the question by me in the supporters meeting said we were going for top six. This was backed up by GB who said he had the funds to achieve that. So as supporters we can think were we should finish but the manager who has said we have a good squad numerous times has said top six so top six it is. Getting sacked it a negative response and pressure, the positive response is we will finish top six.

We got 56 points last season and finished midtable with 3 or 4 games to go we were in the top ten. We need to be improving on that so I’d say anything in the top ten would be ok. But the board suggest they expect us to finish around where our budget is, so their expectations are slightly higher

I think GM’s beginner’s luck has now run out and we are returning to the real world.
With the high intensity he expects, further suspensions we will get, and injuries that will come, the team will run out of steam after the New Year. I don’t expect any significant new signings will come at Christmas.
Obviously, it’s all a matter of personal opinion and supposition.
10th – 12th.

thank you for pointing out that I said he would be sacked now really point to the part where I said that, facts wrong again you must feel silly getting it wrong

If we can tighten up our leaky defence, and strengthen the squad in January, which I think we will, then a top 6 finish is definitely on.

Vicar!
I think our learned colleague is maybe referring to the fact that you didn’t express a view as to were YOU expect us to finish,
But quoted a narrative from our manager based upon his expertise and the boards financial support....
Do you think this current squad can finish in the top half, and if not for whatever reason...
“What do you expect to be the outcome to the Managers seeming failures...?.”

I don't feel silly at all and I didn't get anything wrong, Vicar. I never said you had claimed he should be sacked if we dont make top 6, I'm referring to the attitude put forward by a few people here, not just you, that we should be treating it as some sort of failure if we don't hit the top 6 because the board said we're capable of achieving it in the summer.
Quite a number of teams are capable of that and if we fall just short of it a year on from limping towards lower midtable then I'd consider that a successful campaign and I'm sure the board would too. But I bet there'd be a few moaning it's not good enough on here because there always is, no matter how the team do.
-
Top 6. Still believe in the manager and the players. Just need to end this blip and get back to winning ways and the confidence levels back up. A couple of shrewd signings in January to bolster what we have will hopefully make it an exciting second half to the season.
-
9th
-
It will be top 6. Positive signings in the window and a few departures. Nice push on from January onwards!
-
Depends what we do in Jan
We sign a decent striker a some defensive cover think we can sneak in top 6.
If we go with what we’ve got I think we will end up similar to last year around 13th-14th
Baudry’s And Williams wages are still kicking about somewhere,
-
Just miss out on play offs , 8th
-
Between 8th and 12th for me
-
10th. We've got a good team, but we don't have the strength in depth to sustain it for long enough to last in the play offs. With the right movement in January and the summer, we could take a real tilt at it next season.

no they won't sack him nor should they, if we can strengthen in January then we can make top 6, now is not the time to be judging, look at Barnsley when they went up last time they were bottom at Christmas
-
My optimistic self says that I’ve seen enough to suggest we can make the play offs.
But as the thread says ‘realistically’ then I’ll say 12th.
I wouldn’t have been disappointed with that before the season started, but part of me thinks we could do better.
-
Realistically, it depends on so much - injuries, bans, January changes. I'd plump for 7th.
