Lets face it this group of players have been together a long time,in the last 18 months we haven't pulled up many trees and after a good start we are fading, weve played a lot of the teams expected to be up there this season and come up short..So forgetting the budget for a minute, which players do people think are not good enough to make us a consistent top end league 1 team going forward. In the past there have always been players that you could say we need to improve on but this time it doesn't seem so clear cut...
Mine would be..
Butler-fantastic servent for this club but think we need better.
Coppinger-Absolute legend and on his day still unplayable but time waits for no man sadly
Blair-Just not a top end league 1 player for me.
Of course we wont agree but it would be interesting to see what people think we need to improve..

This is going to be against the grain of most I feel but Mason for me is not up to it and tasty joining him is Andrew, I would give Joe a Wright a 3 year deal and build the defence around him

Mason is only 21 though, where as Andrew should be in his peak.

Not everyone will agree with who I think and tbh we can’t change everyone in one go but for me who I think isn’t good enough for a sustained top end league 1 battle and potential championship is;
Butler
Blair
Andrew
May
Beestin
Lund
Ben-Khemis
Taylor
Don’t get me wrong, a few of these have had good season so far and been great for the club overall but I just don’t see them as good enough for us to move forward. This is a start for me too, other players may not be up to it either but I’ve not seen enough to decide that.
My opinion of course and I understand people may not agree with me.
-
Beestin Lund Ben Khemis for sure , along with those currently out on loan , but we haven’t the resources to replace when you consider that contracts are up and the timing isn’t good if you want to compete and keep a team spirit . players either move out permanently in January or it will cause selection problems . McCann IMO will told keep us up and build again in the summer .

Mason Andrews and Anderson need replacing for me
-
Firstly,we need to replace/cover injured players first,I.E. Rowe and Wright.Wright has been a great addition and is still youngish, but Im concerned at how he seems to pick up injuries pretty regularly, and hope he does'nt turn into another Baudry. If we'd had like for like cover when they got injured,I think it likely we would have 4 or 5 points more and we would not be debating if we are dropping like a stone or not.
Edit : I don't mean get rid of Rowe and Wright,I mean get replacements for when they are injured, before permanent replacements for other players.
-
Coppinger has been our best player in many games this season. We shouldn’t be replacing him yet

We will all disagree on which players we individually think need changing..Like I said Copps can still be unplayable but whilst I will be solely on my own in this opinion,i believe that his time has sadly come and it's starting to effect the balance of the team when we try to play with pace..
-
Copps has to be sent a Clynic for testing as to determine his real age and how to clone him .!!

The original question was who out of the first team isn't good enough????..We can all disagree with peoples choices..
-
A few games ago, it wasn't a question who's not good enough. I still believe they are. We can certainly debate who can make the step up etc. Transfer windows are about evolution not revolution and I trust the manager in strengthening where he sees fit.
I wouldn't be writing off the likes of Mason, Andrew or Butler just yet.

In the January window we add to the squad with players who can step up or loanees that can improve us.
Dependant on Wilks situation off field then decision will have to be made on his loan continuation.
Anderson J I would not buy.
Summer we need players that will go straight into the first team. A lot of the fringe players who are out of contract can go. The only reason to give them another contract if we cannot improve on them.
If Butler and Copps are still fit enough then I can see us offering them another year. But hopefully we will have got two new players who are good enough to compete with them for a starting postion.
We need another right back who again can compete realistically with Mason, not in name only like Lund.
Having Amos and Horton as young back ups hopefully Continuing with their progress. Therefore GM has to make a decision does he give Andrew another contract or replace him.
We must give Wright another contract and sign another left sided centre half. If Butler stays then we will have four centre halves which is a must.
If GM continues with the 433 then midfield and forward he must sort in the summer. These will be the areas were most of his funds will be spent whether loans or buying players.

Horton has gone out on loan for now.

I was talking about next summer.

to release ,.Lund,Beestin,Mandeville ,Blair,McCullough,Taylor and Lawlor .I fear Butler will not have his player contract renewed but he should stay at the club in a coaching rôle.

Probably first priority should be to replace elements of our ‘fan’ base.

so where you off to ?

I wouldn’t look to do that. Thinner than our squad

Butler, Mason and Andrew are all good player they aren't really the priority for replacing imo. Adding more competition for places is the important thing so having Cummings on trial is a good sign but he wouldn't replace Mason straight away for me.
We're all quick to jump on the defences back but the struggle in form stems from us not taking the many chances we create which eventually meant we lost confidence which is everything. So imo we need to be looking further forward with a genuine striker coming in to compete with Marquis, i know its a running debate but May just isn't that. Getting proven quality is a luxury most clubs can't afford so a loan would be a good option. Also if J Anderson can't get in the team now we've lost form then we should look at better in January while we can

If you don't concede then you get at least a point. We need to be able to keep a clean sheet and that starts building from the back.

Bit over top that mate just because some of us have a different opinion to your opinion.
-
Coppinger has been one of our best players and still influences games. First man on team sheet for me every week.
-
Replace Anderson, centre half, add a younger striker to take Taylor's place and start playing Lawlor instead of Marosi, or get another goalie and get rid of one. Maybe look at Westwood from Wednesday, he could be another Sulli type for us.

Westwood is not being played at the Wendies because of a massive games bonus due if he reaches a certain number. And his wages are rumoured to be in the £30k a week bracket, hence nobody wanting him on loan or him agreeing to a transfer.
I go along with Graingrover but would want money and a sell on for Mandeville and McCullough, both are better off away from here, but are capable of doing well elsewhere and would add May to his list.
-
There are a number of players who have either been here a considerable time and/or who have played a considerable number of games, and have neither kicked on or established themselves. Here I am naming May, Beestin, Ben Khemis, Lawlor, Lund, McCullough and Kiwomya. These are not bad players but moving them on not least to allow a seemingly decent crop of younger players to come through, is probably a wise move for everyone. Mandeville I am not going to go there and I think everyone including him realises that Taylor is for this season only.
-
I agree with Butler and Blair.
A number of players could go (Lund etc a number of players mentioned), but you would need to replace with better players...which isn't always possible.
For me a quality centre half would be priority, to go along side Wright. I wouldn't say no to an experienced keeper if available.
January could be interesting if we get bids for Marquis.

I think I'd agree with you on all points there CBCB

Rovers have not allowed Luke McCullough to play for Tranmere in the FA Cup, so maybe he still has a future with us.
-
McCann said this week that due to Peterborough not allowing Anderson to get cup tied, he has had to do same with McCullough.
