Title: Alfie May
Post by: RoversAlias on December 22, 2018, 06:12:10 pm
One chance and took it today, exactly what you want from a substitute striker. That's his 10th goal of the season as well.

I think we can see the improvement in him from last season, let's hope that upward curve continues.

His first goal this season in the league and first time he has scored in League One for almost exactly 12 months.

Give the lad a break. He's only started two league games this season. He's been on the pitch for a grand total of 480mins in the league this season. The equivalent of just over 5 full games.
Marquis had only scored 2 after 5 league games.

Our need to stick the boot into decent, honest pros doing a decent honest job is quite depressing.

Given you an objective set of facts in neutral tone. Make of them what you will - good, bad or indifferent.

Only for May. For everyone else, especially Mandeville, they don't count.

(Only kidding)

Six goals then, 10 including the glorified reserve games. Still puts him as one of our top scorers. McCann praised him after the game, saying he deserved a goal for all his hard work in training.

You gave a limited sub-set of the facts.

He has improved his general play this season, which you would expect training every day with better players and coaches than he was used to. He has rescued a point today a very well done from me.
May have to score at this level on a regular basis between now and the end of the season to secure another contract,

They are facts. Objective, unarguable facts.

Agreed, though he started 4 times, and had approx 647 mins on the pitch, equivalent to 7+ games. Marquis had scored 3 in his first 7 games.

Fair dos BRR. Looks like I missed the starts Vs Barnsley and Blackpool when totting up the numbers. That would make the starts and the minutes agree.

Doesn't change the gist of my point. It's wilfully daft to discuss his scoring record in terms of days, weeks, mo this and years when he's spent so little time on the pitch.

Credit to the lad, he got a scrambled goal great, but seriously if he had started and had had to take the buffeting from the start Marquis and Wilks were subject to, he would have not done as well as those two did, and on a lighter note, would he have been able to turn and run with the defender on his back and run five yards like Wilks did?
It was not the type of game Alfie has done well in over the last two years, as I said  he did what he was put on for as a substitute, well done.

Did you ever play tennis, Selby? Great backhand there.

Don’t think it was a scrambled goal - rebound yes. He took it well.

Not a scrambled goal at all - it was a neat finish. Came to him quick and he picked his spot. Wish he could do it more regularly. By comparison, Wilks played most of the game with no end product.

Yes definitely not a scrambled goal
