I don’t like to criticise but having a fullback namely Amos albeit a left back should’ve come on and Danny Andrew being the senior pro should’ve moved to right back - leaving Herbie in midfield - a tactical mistake by the manager and au hope he learns from it

Exactly. We have two right backs in Mason and Cummings and one make-do in Blair, all three are injured. Not sure how many we should carry in the squad? Maybe do away with all the strikers and just have another three right backs in case this freak set of injuries and illness strikes again?

And yes of course Lund - given a 3.5 year contract by Ferguson in December 2015. Barely played for us since.

Ferguson also gave Evina a contract extension essentially awarding failure - hopefully Grant & Cliff won’t get hoodwinked in contract negotiations

We had one right back - mason. He got injured so we signed someone.
Fergie also transfer listed Lund but McCann took him off the list

Although it seemed strange to put Kane at right back has anyone thought that he might not have wanted a left footer at right back which both Andrews and Amos are.

We didn’t loose because of a fullback , it was because we didn’t compete where it mattered in their 18 yard box .

Even Mason arrived here as a midfielder I believe, have we an embargo against us signing a recognised right back! Not much choice today admitted, but, if Cummings was injured the last position I would have put Kane in apart from keeper would have been right back, at least he may have had an impact on the game 2nd half (our best player 1st half by a mile by the way), instead of Rowe, who was virtually non existent. Copps ( been there before? ) could have played there & left Kane where he is most effective & more of a goal threat.

True. And why can't Marquis stay in middle of the pitch, sick of crosses coming in and he's on opposite flank. His positional sense is woeful

Cummings was awful gifted them there first goal and persistentle missed the pass to him and it went out of play, and he was in a good position to receive the pass but went hiding behind there players, let him go now

Strikers are not supposed to stay in the middle for 90+ mins. Having said that he was poor today but he also got very little service.
We just we totally out of sorts as a team. Wake up call that when standards drop you get punished.

Coppinger doesn't have the energy to play at full back anymore, and I wasn't particularly enamoured by his displays when he was used there a few years ago.
We have three contracted right backs, it's just one of those things that Mason has gotten injured, Cummings must've got injured and Blair, our emergency right back, was also unavailable. McCann obviously felt that putting a right footed player there in Kane was preferable to playing Andrew or Amos there as they'd have been playing "backwards" in a sense, being so predominantly left footed/sided players.

I meant to include him as one of the three contracted RBs, as Blair is a midfielder. It's clear Lund has been deemed nowhere near good enough so fair enough. McCann obviously felt he was adequate back-up in the summer then quickly realised that this was a misjudgement and looked to get Cummings in when he could.

Playing Amos or Andrew would’ve made a lot of sense. A full back is a position in itself regardless of which side. They would have a much clearer idea of their positional play etc.
There’s been an array of right footed left backs.
Playing a central midfielder there is a completely different kettle of fish, the only way he would do that is if he doesn’t quite think Amos is ready yet

I remember James Husband doing quite a steady job at RB at Leyton Orient a few years ago. As Dickos says, it's better if you play on your natural side but the principles don't change.
Cody Prior has also played wing back in the reserves. Personally I expected us to go 3-5-2 when Cummings went off. Playing Kane there was a huge waste of his talents.
