Let's settle it .
-
But the only decision that counts is GM’s
-
No option for both equal/no difference?
-
Neither we want better to improve
-
Not many goalkeepers in league one better than them. Not sure we’d improve at all by replacing them
-
Agreed Dickos. People have very short memories, we've had some absolutely donkey goalies in the past few years and now people reckon we could find better than Lawlor and Marosi on a passable L1 budget? No chance.
There's a lot more Gary Woods/Stuckman types knocking about than there are Johnstone/Button types.
-
I think we've been blessed with goalkeepers in the past, Sullivan,Rhodes, Johnston,Warrington to name a few and the one and only Dennis peacock.
-
Willie Boyd was the keeper when I started going - he had a superstition that he would never shave on a match day & he wasn’t very big but was brave & he had to be as keepers weren’t given the protection that today’s keepers get
-
Just heard David Button is making his Premiership debut today. He was a solid keeper for us and hasn't looked back since. Congratulations to him!
-
Both Marko and Ian have been great for us. No need to pick a winner. Very rare either of them makes a mistake. The last one I can recall is Marko's rash shoulder charge v Fleetwood at home.

Marko had a bad game at Charlton in the league, Rob; I don't think he's played in the first team since.
-
Either for me. Nothing between them.
-
Both pretty much on a par. Both make the odd mistake but both got a lot going for them.
Distribution - Lawlor
Claiming crosses - Marosi
One on ones - Lawlor
Shot stopping - Even
(Undue stick from sections of the fanbase - Marosi)
-
I’m going for Lawlor for one reason and one reason alone - GM keeps picking him over marosi. I know f*ck all about goalkeeping (and football generally to be fair) but the fact he keeps getting picked shows, for me, that those who know more than I do think Lawlor is better. For what it’s worth I think they’re both better than Gary Woods!

Good keeper. I remember seeing him hit on the back of the head by a flying meat pie thrown by Wigan fans
-
I don't know the stats but how have we fared when both play?
-
LinksRover, I'd estimate that Marosi has had the shirt more L1 games this season than Lawlor, which, if true would dispute your logic.
-
The poll is pretty clear, it's 50/50. They're both good. I don't recall us having such good options since Harry Gregg was pushing to take Ken Hardwick's spot as number 1.
-
Not sure of the exact stats but Lawlor has the shirt at the moment and I trust GM who sees them every day in training to know the better keeper - I should have said this in my original post but didn’t think I needed to - at that moment in time. Keepers can be in and out of form & confidence and, as Lawlor has the shirt at the moment, then, at the moment, he is the better keeper. It might all change in the next game but at the moment it’s Lawlor.

Goalkeeping situation is not an issue, both are still young & progressing. Be better spending the budget in other areas.
-
Both fantastic keepers for this level. We are lucky to have this dilemma imo 😀⚽️
-
Not sure of the exact stats...
In all competitions they've both made 72 appearances.
In the League, it's Lawlor 61, Marosi 59.
Marosi made 4 League appearances and 6 total in the two seasons before Lawlor arrived.

I think he meant who’s played the most games under McCann

I didn't think he would be admitting to being that lazy ;)

I think McCann himself has said we don't have a set 1st choice goalkeeper, and they are both pushing for the shirt all the time, so using his selections as a barometer doesn't really give you a definitive answer either.
-

footballers superstitions are a weird thing, they associate something out of the ordinary being the reason they won a game, but when they do the same thing the week after and lose the game, don't seem to understand they mean fook all, your performance, not what boot you put on first is the key to winning. Very silly!!

Not really being lazy, more to the point, don’t really give a toss about the stats of who has played more games - you’re only as good as your next game!
My point was that since Lawlor was currently first choice of GM then as far as I’m concerned he’s the better goalie. I personally don’t think there’s much between them and it depends on confidence and how they’re playing in practice. The point made against this was that Marosi had played more games under GM so my point was wrong, which I was disputing. So I guess if being lazy means not checking every single fact before making a point then I’m in good company with most on this forum! :P :P :P
Anyway, this lazy bleeder is going to have a Drambuie and watch MOTD before taking the missus to bed and making her smile - I’ll tell her a good joke!! :woot:

Adam, as a very superstitious former footballer I can tell you that doing things in a certain order, like putting say, your left boot first, puts the player in the right frame of mind before going on to the pitch.
That is a very big thing.
Of course it doesn’t always get you the right result but mentally you feel as though it might do.

Ended it with a clean sheet as well, although definitely fortunate after spilling a ball on the edge of the 6 yard box that a defender blocked the follow up on the line. That said he did make a couple of decent saves.
-
well at least from the poll results we can see that Lawlor is the better GK with 53% of the vote. No disputing that. Marko can suck an egg as he lost, fair and square. Now let's not have another poll ever again please, even if things change between now and the end of the season that might change the way people vote. Thanks.
-
Will all the Marosi voters demand a revote?
-
What about all those of us who didn’t vote as well.

A better goalkeeper only in the opinion of those that bothered to vote

If you don’t vote you can’t complain.

It's rumoured that Lawlor voters were persuaded by misleading Lawyer ads on buses.

No complaint, only clarifying what the poll showed, all a matter of opinion

I didn’t vote because, as I had stated, there is nothing between them.
Either or should have been a third option to vote on.
-
:that:
Exactly how I felt hound. If we could meld the best attributes of both together we would have one hell of a keeper.
They are both young and still learning though so should only get better.
-
Thing is we wouldn't tho as we'd never be able to keep him (if we had him in the first place) off of a bigger club's radar.
And he'd cost a lot to sign.
Iano Marolor - out of our league! Lol
-
Still wouldn’t be able to command his area!
