Looks like they have been caught trying it on:
https://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/football/leeds-united/derby-county-reveal-leeds-united-staff-member-caught-at-club-s-training-ground-1-9532488
Spying eh!
Poor that is.....I remember when football was a sport.
-
Typical of their ways. Does not surprise me one bit.
-
As much as I despise Leeds, if the man was outside the perimiter fence I don’t see what he has done wrong
-
Legally probably nowt..
However maybe the FA could charge Leeds with “bringing the game into disrepute”..
The gift that keeps on giving.!
-
As much as I despise Leeds, if the man was outside the perimiter fence I don’t see what he has done wrong
The land he was on is private land owned by Derby County I believe.
-
Is it different to watching your opponents last game ?
-
Watching what they do in training, yes. Plus it's trespassing...
-
Just playing devils advocate not condoning it ? So a development game at cantley
-
Anyone remember a few years ago they sent a spy to Middlesbrough's quiz game in the football supporters yearly competition. All the questions were the same but obviously not held on the same night. Got caught doing that as well. Leopard doesn't change it's spots!
-
Do you seriously think they are going to send a spy dressed in a LUFC tracksuit with a pair of binoculars who then cuts the perimeter fence to get in.
It could have been anyone. :headbang:
-
With a pen that doubles as a camera
-
Just read the Yorks Post article.
Well if it was an employee I am flabbergasted. Surely he was not sent by the club and did this off his own back.
It did say in the Daily Telegraph this morning apparently, that he had cut into the perimeter fence.
-
I've heard he's asked for 3 other fences to be taken into consideration at Huddersfield, Middlesbrough and Hull.
-
Just playing devils advocate not condoning it ? So a development game at cantley
There were various people there on Tuesday taking notes one was Bryan Flynn. But it was not a training session so any body can go.
You can stand out side the perimeter to watch Rovers training. If another clubs employee was doing that he would not be breaking the law but morally it would not be right.
-
Derby had to cancel their training session because of this, according to their local.
Bielsa has apparently done this before in Argentina, but it is interfering with the preparations of an opponent.
Derby fans are saying the binkickers should get a points deduction, but their club has not yet made a formal complaint to the EFL.
I think they should, just to put down a marker....then see what the EFL do!
-
I have now heard it was Noel Whelan who was spying and he is employed on the Leeds staff.
Ridiculous. Why I ask myself. They watch all their opponents and have videos of every game. But if he was outside the perimeter fence then no offence has been committed.
Just very stupid indeed. Maybe this is the norm in South America?

Pathetic behaviour. And no, "I've done this before in other countries" is not an excuse.
Interesting that it shows up who the Leeds sympathisers are though on here.
-
Was expecting Campsall along as soon as I saw the OP.

You was saying🤔🤔🤔🤔

What’s the problem. I have said Leeds have been crazy to do this haven’t i.
I haven’t defended them have I?
Oh by the way i am a DRFC supporter.
-
All those of you who think i am a Leeds fan let me just say this.
I go all over the Country to watch Rovers and have been going to away matches for 38 years. The most games i have missed in any one season is 5 in the last 15 years. Some of you so called die hard Rovers fans won’t of come anywhere close to that.
-
Pretty sure Bobby Robson paid a teenage Vilas-Boas to spy on opponents training. It happens a lot of places.
-
I spy 3 points for Leeds tonight however..
-

Wasn't meaning to offend, Campsall. Just kidding around really because you do seem to defend Leeds beyond the norm on here when they get brought up.
-
I do not like Leeds Utd, infact ....I don’t like any teams outside of Doncaster, but this story is just too stupid to be taken seriously...
It’s called using your initiative at best.... I mean,...the information gleaned from a bunch of players running round poles and having a laugh and joke with each other on a fenced in field can’t really be that helpful can it....
I mean.....SERIOUSLY .??

Ok no problem. No offence taken.
All i get defensive about is the ridiculous bitterness and hatred some on here have for Leeds Utd.
Yes they have more than their fair share of d... heads supporting them. So why let that be such a problem. We have plenty at Rovers as every club has.

I think that they would have been more interested in corner kick and free kick routines myself.

Seriously I am with you. When I first heard this I thought :
a) do they not have solid fences around the Training Ground - or those black screens at least
b) the only thing I thought of is they must have been looking if certain Players are fit or perhaps fit for the upcoming game
c) this cant be new surely ? Just that Leeds have been caught. Bielsa-bub is used to doing it and has said its common practice in other Countries and I reckon it will be here too
d) is there a difference to sending Scouts to each others games ? My mate does this and is wined and dined and gets the best Seats in the Grounds he goes to - and that is reciprocated when that Club goes to his Club
e) is there a difference if Clubs have lip readers on their Books to see what the Opposition are saying - forcing now everyone to talk behind their hands. Is it cheatingf) I also thought I wrote this just so I could write Bielsa-bub !
I thought :
a) I dont know but surely they should have
b) all I thought of but set Pieces also a good call
c) must be common place here as well especially with the "serious" Clubs
d) I cant see a difference other than you have been politely invited
e) No difference to lip reading at all and not cheating imo just trying to get an edgef) True - guilty as charged

Shocked that you missed the opportunity to add soemthing about seeing a little silhouetto of a man, but you might feel it doesn't really matter to you.

First club I think of when I hear integrity and honesty......not

I always think of Leeds City first - then United

One thing no-one has commented on......they have probably been doing this all season!
The only reason you would do this is to gain a competitive advantage.
So how many points has it been worth up to now?
Not likely Derby was a first offence, is it?
-
If the vermin from Elland Road do get promoted to the promised land in May ,it will be quite entertaining to watch them struggle next season, because no way are they going to able to compete with the top dozen or do teams in the Premiership.
Hopefully they don’t get automatic promotion and have to go via the play off route and loose on penalties,or get hammered in the semi final. Vermin

I am guessing that this was not their first offence
I am guessing that lots of Clubs do this.
I am unsure as to why you can see into some Training Grounds if they dont want people to look in ? If the "spy" was on public land then all the more reason to cover up with hedges / screens / fences surely ?
I am not a Leeds fan (far from it) but their crime is being rumbled I suppose although again if the "spy" is on public land how is that a "crime"
-
Now that this is out there and undoubtedly a “ news-worthy” item , will we see or hear about teams practicing set pieces one way for the unwanted interlopers......but actually executing these set pieces differently on the day....
Mmmmm I feel I have given this subject far too much gravity and attention....

I wonder whether we do the spying as well.
-
There must be loads of clubs doing this.
Who is to say Rovers haven’t spy’d on other clubs training.
If your outside the perimeter fence your not doing anything wrong.
Whole thing is a nonesense really.
But as some of you despise Leeds so much it becomes not only a crime but immoral.
Personally I think it is a bit of a joke as i don’t see what can be learnt from a distance and through binoculars it is almost laughable.
In South America it is normal to spy on the opposition.
If Leeds thought they were doing something illegal then the spy wouldn’t have had LUFC clothing on would he. Don’t think so.

when i was a lad there were books on spying openly for sale called I-spy
personally i think Derby were "negligent" you might not be able to stop a drone with a camera but you can take common sense precautions for privacy.

Bielsa rumoured to be resigning. I can’t believe it myself but he is very temperamental so wouldn’t be shocked.
-
Unscheduled Bielsa Press Conference at 5pm. This could get interesting and amusing!
-
funny thing is that Phil vickery South American expert said a long while ago his teams alway start off very well and fade away second half of the season - I was thinking about that when Leeds wobbled recently
I wonder if any teams have ever put a microphone in the away teams dressing room. - Makes you wonder if the big teams ever have a techo do a sweep for bugs -- things to look forward to in the future maybe ??

I would not be surprised at anything these days - and that is quite a credible suggestion
They must have lip readers as well - otherwise why would they suddenly start discussing things behind their hands UNLESS they too had been watching the Oppositions discussions
-
Really, who gives flying f@#k, really! Is it worse than a player throwing himself to the ground for a penalty, or a fullback creeping 20 yards forward at a throw in or a goalie taking an eternity to take a goal kick in the last minute when you are looking for an equaliser?
I know which of these gets my blood boiling and it aint some Johnny English sat in a ditch watching a team training
-
Well said Raven. Let's try to get some honesty back on the pitch.
22 players playing hard and fair trying to win a game. What could be better than that?

exactement mon ami
did we all see the foreign managers on sky who admitted "the practise is common place in Europe " give a thought to all the players who a manager literally sent to Coventry - and want away from a club and how easy their tongues are liberated.
remember this gem
https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11668/2388407/gallas-made-own-goal-threat
Tony Pulis even said he would ring local reporters for info - just hope the football correspondent of the "free press" isn't as free as it name suggests in passing on info
:chair:
now for the Brexit (EU) angle
If other European clubs don't punish teams this country formerly known as England can't .... so stop digging
remember we might be getting an EU directive on height of letter boxes but their is currently no EU directive on "non"watching training sessions
-
Well, you know what they say about Leopards changing their spots:
https://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/football/leeds-united/liquidators-finally-draw-a-line-under-leeds-united-s-2007-administration-with-less-than-750-000-paid-to-unsecured-creditors-1-9673129
Seriously, this has been dragging on for 12 years, and the football authorities still can't bring them to book.
What sort of message does that send?
-
It is all they know. Morally bankrupt.
-
They had no morals when they were formed, they were only formed because the original owner wanted to buy Huddersfield and move the club to Weeds in the 1920's, and have had no morals since.
-
Thats because it's was no surprise,German fokkers have been spotted doing spying missioons before!
-

I agree with much of what you say Brian but the above. Sorry way out of line.
Most clubs try to bend rules to their advantage don’t they. As Rigo says in his post far worse goes on.
If you think Leeds are different to other clubs you are widely off the mark.
Doesn’t make skulduggery right of course but come on it’s the game that needs sorting out.
-
This is just typical of business in general
-
Paul they were formed when the original Leeds team Leeds City were expelled from the football league for illegal payments to players and staff.
The chairman of the new club wanted to buy Huddersfield Town, and move the club to play in Leeds. Huddersfield at the time were the best team probably in the world winning the first division championship three times in succession the first team to do so, and over a ten year period the most successful team Yorkshire has ever had.
In my time they as a club have been nothing but trouble, having to play games at Hull City because of crowd trouble, Revie offering Alan Ball £20,000 in a carrier bag to play for Leeds while an Everton player, Going bust for millions of pounds and tricking the FA to keep out of the fourth division, and not paying their debts on more than one occasion.
Along with clubs like Bolton , Birmingham, Leicester, Derby County etc they have got away with murder because of economy of size, while good clubs like Hereford, York City, Stockport County, etc. have been fed to the lions for far less problems.
They exist, I have no respect,no feelings of endearment to them at all, they are one of the clubs I hope forever reap the rewards of forever spending their time in the Championship being one of the original teams that voted to cast all the other clubs aside never contemplating they could be relegated and replaced by clubs like Blackpool and Bournmouth.
To me they represent every thing that is wrong with football, their existing chairman at the start of the season wanting the Championship TV money all for themselves and to cast the two lower leagues adrift without a care in the world.
So my hope is they do not go up, fall into the money tree doo, and are dealt correctly like other clubs have been( see above) and are chucked out of the league once and for all, but would have sympathy for any none league competition that had that lot dropped on them.
My dream may never come true, but one thing is for certain they will never have the respect I have for my team and other local FL sides.
-
its All down to the media and pundits pushing the fact that they’re a big team who should be in the premiership. Well they’re not otherwise they’d be there and wouldn’t be playing league 1 and championship. It’s about time their fans and the media got over their selves and realised that they’re now no longer a footballing giant
-
Well, you know what they say about Leopards changing their spots:

Not just Leeds though is it. Leicester, Birmingham, Bolton, QPR, Derby, Bournemouth and many others have been breaking fair play rules and running up some Massive debts.
-
Campsall,
I think you are confusing different things.
This is not about breach of FFP rules, it is about not meeting financial obligations that apply to any business, not just football.
The issue is a matter of honouring your debts, and not exploiting others who have provided goods and services in good faith.
Both breaches are bad, of course......but this is using the process to avoid liabilities.
-
You miserable sods ! This is a Yorkshire club that may get back to the Premier League, do well and promote our region. I watched Donny in the 60's as a Thorne lad and then watched Leeds if they were at home and we were away. Maybe some of you guys need to leave the broad acres for 15 yrs or so and then realise it is Yorkshire that matters more than one in particular of it's towns.

There talks a man with a white rose on his lapel. Well said.
Can’t wait for a week on Friday to fly
the White rose flag ( figuratively speaking )
at Trent Bridge.
-
Yeh, and when their chairman tried to corner the lower leagues TV money for the Championship, and call it the premiership two, and tried to set up an Italian TV company to sell the games, he was thinking of the broad acres all the time then.
And that was just last September oh ye of short memories. He is not in it to put money in to football and if he can get ours he would do, in fact he tried to.
-
We just won 4-1 to re-ignite our play off push and we have a thread running to three pages about another club.
There are some sad people out there.

The obsession battering Leeds is really sad Idler. I don’t know why i get dragged into it to be honest.
-
Idler, there are lots of blind, deaf, and short memories, and ignorant of the threat club owners like Leeds have to clubs like ours as well, going around with their head stuck in the sand with their arses showing.
The greedy barstewards would not give clubs like ours a seconds thought.

But your obsession with hating Leeds is not healthy Brian. There are are numerous clubs the same.
It is not the CLUBS fault they have had unscrupulous owners is it. Seem to remember WE HAD ONE.

If people want to read about our performance or result against Bristol Rovers, I recommend one of the following threads (please note this is not an exhaustive list):
- New formation
- Sadlier
- Ali Crawford
- Donny v Bristol (highlights)
- Vintage Copps tonight
- Return of Beestin
- Bristol Rovers
- Rovers v Gas Vblog
- Let's talk about the Bristol Rovers game
If you don't want to read about people criticising Leeds then I'd suggest avoiding threads with titles like "Leeds cheating" - there's pretty fair warning of the content right there.
-
This is going to be my last post on this topic as it’s getting boring.
The squad of British/Irish only players that Leeds had in the early 70’s has to be the best there has ever been. Every one was a full international and most were home grown through the youth system, with the exception of Three/Four players.
Sprake, Harvey, Reaney, Cooper, Madeley, Charlton, Hunter, McQueen, Cherry, F Gray, Bremner, Giles, Bates, Yorath, Lorimer, E Gray, Clarke, Jones, & Jordan.
Sorry Doncaster born Mick Bates was the only one without an International cap.
Some squad of home grown players that was.
-
Paul I don't hate Weeds at all, I totally dismiss them, there is a difference, but will forever discuss and think of that club the same way they have treat the rest of the local sides, which is the same as me, they dismiss any thought of us.
At the beginning of this season Paul, that club put forward plans to cast the two lower leagues away, monopolise all the TV money and did not give too hoots about the repercussions to any of the clubs, they attended and organised with other clubs in the championship meetings that we and other lower divisions were not in attendance at.
They don't give two figs about us, they are poison if given the opportunity, living in false hope of regaining when they were a force for a fleeting time last century, and still trying to live off it while losing a fortune every week, long may it last.

Donny Whites in the midst.

RoversAlias. I've watched the Rovers since 1958 and lived in Bradford since 1978. I pass Elland Rd. every time that I come across to the Keepmoat. It would have been far easier for me to jump ship and watch a higher placed team than continue supporting my home town team.
When I started watching football everybody supported their local team and usually had a second favourite. I was always happy to see any Yorkshire side do well.
I think that a lot of the younger supporters went to school with lads that rather than watch the Rovers watched Leeds and took the mickey out of the loyal Rovers fans. I married a Leeds girl and part of the family were Liverpool fans as that's where her dad originated from. No hassle there.
I worked and share pubs with Leeds,Huddersfield,Bradford City and Park Avenue fans. I always enjoy a natter and a bit of nobble with all of them.
I can take stick and give it back with a smile because I have seen my club rise from the depths of despair.
The big clubs have got far greedier over the years and the heaviest punishments seem to have been given to the smaller clubs. Peterborough,Swindon and Luton were all really affected points wise compared to Leeds,Leicester etc.
I read all threads on the forum even if it's one the that the title makes me think that it won't interest me.
-
Love your post tbh Idler! Completely agree, I was just being mischievous last night.
When I was a kid at school, Rovers were in the Conference and not one of my classmates supported us. They were all baffled as to why I'd be at all interested in going to Belle Vue, since they all walked around supporting Man Utd, literally all of them, in the wake of them winning the treble, even the teacher tried to get in on it once because they too supported Man Utd! But it didn't matter, I had been bit by the Rovers bug at 6 years old and nothing was changing that.
-
There is NOTHING to compare to the REAL feeling of supporting your home town Team.
I of course have a soft spot for Wolves again based on where my Dad came from but from being 6 or 7 he brought me to Rovers having adopted them as his Team too and I am glad he did.
I still remember walking over Pitch at Belle Vue on way to Cheltenham and looking at where my Dad would have stood by the Home Tunnel and thinking "this is for you - how great will it be for Rovers to be back in Tier 2 where we started our Supporting" I felt a little emotional
Later on I was mortified that we had lost but it came right in the end - and he would have been proud of his Team for sure.

It’s not just people on here who dislike Leeds Utd, there’s a song that’s sung at a lot of grounds about them with both sets of supporters at same time

Blimey, idler. I presume then that you will be using the A6110, passing close to my house.
Nearly. I use the M621 as it's quicker.
Always better passing when we win.😉
