Club goalscoring records keep coming.
In our Football League and Conference seasons, although it is the 31st time a player has scored 20 in all competitions John becomes only the fifth player in our history to do it twice after Tom Keetley 6 times (1923-1928), Peter Kitchen 3 times (1974-76), Alick Jeffrey (1964-65) and Colin Booth (1962-63)
That is pretty select and heroic company.

His workmanlike performances set him ahead of most of our past prolific goalscorers in my view including Kitchen ,O Callaghan ,Elwiss et al. i have to travel back into my very young days to Bert Tinsdill to find such a hard working prolific goalscorer in a Rovers shirt .Alick was the best ever goalscorer I saw but he was never a hard worker .

Different game in different eras with different expectations on players in every position which makes it hard to compare like for like

Was today his 5th booking?

Kane, Butler and Whiteman all on nine yellows.

True. But the other three on that list all played in eras where goals were more plentiful. That puts Marquis's performance into some perspective.
Me and our kid were talking about this yesterday. We're both of the opinion that he's the best complete forward we've ever seen playing for the Rovers. That's over a period going back to Bren and Kitch.

This is his third season with us. In those 2.5 seasons to date, we have played a total of 119 league games and he has played 117 of those, always starting. Two games missed in all that time.

I didn't like the whole anger/sulk vibe of Ferguson, but you have to hand it to him, he spotted something in JM and brought consistency to his game.
