Title: Marquis penalty
Post by: Bezza on March 31, 2019, 07:22:05 am
I though he was very cool with the penalty, hopefully it will start him on a run of goals till the end of the season.

Some say on another thread that he scuffed it or miss hit it....all I see is a very good well stroked pass into the net, having sent the keeper the wrong way....
Very professional and Most enjoyable

As I saw it he didn't scuff it but didn't get it close enough to the corner to beat the keeper had he guessed right.  In his run up though, John telegraphed where he was going with it, which any half decent keeper would have been able to work out.

Great penalty. Impossible for it to be saved if you react to the keeper moving and send it the opposite way.

If Marquis has seen the keeper start to move it’s a great penalty..  if not, he’s got lucky.

I prefer a stronger shot, but regardless, the papers this morning show our goals starting “Marquis - 3 (pen)” and that’s all that matters..

Have a look again at the one Stock rolled in against Southend in the play off semi final.
Was that a bad pen or did he wait for the keeper to shift his weight?
I don’t recall anyone questioning him over it.

Maybe John did the same yesterday.

Tried to pause it on I follow highlights but can’t really tell maybe John changed at the last second hence to soft shot/pass into the net

Theo Robinson did similar in the 2-1 defeat at Fulham in the league cup a few seasons ago.  We had been battered but had pulled back a goal with a great second half performance.

We get a penalty and Theo takes a casual one the keeper saves but if he had guessed wrong, it’s a goal and 2-2 with us in the ascendancy.

This got slated as far as I can recall..

The only thing that matters is that this was a goal and that Marquis is scoring again..

I've not seen the highlights but if he did do that, fair enough. Matt Le Tissier used to do it - it's not an easy thing to do so perhaps he's been practising.

My view that he's not much good at penalties is based on the fact that before yesterday he had taken 5 penalties for us and missed 3, and the only one I remember being a decent penalty that was saved was by the Chorley keeper this year.

He's only a back-up penalty taker to Whiteman anyway.

I don't care whether he fluffed it or just picked his spot after seeing the keeper moved.Fact is  it went in..It's a goal both us and he needed..

Marquis can relax a bit now his barren run is over regardless on how...

Marquis scored the penalty that’s it.
