Title: Luke McCullough
Post by: RoversAlias on April 03, 2019, 11:16:55 am
Has suffered another cruciate knee ligament injury, season over. Is that his third serious knee injury now? A real shame.

Is his contract up? Hopefully get shut of him now as he was never going to get a look in realistically anyway, even less so now.

Obviously I feel bad for him cos his career's being ruined by injury but meh. It happens.

I finished aged 24 and wasn't very good but enthusiastic.
I can't imagine how bad a pro feels. I lost my hobby while they lose their career. 40 odd years of watching how I walk and a failed knee replacement.
I really sympathise with him.

He was the answer to our midfield injury crisis according to some!
Sad for Luke too small for a centre half and not good enough for midfield, having said that he had some excellent performances in his time at the KM hope he recovers from this and makes a career out of football at whatever level.

This has come at a bad time for Luke his contract with us finishes in the summer. Do we as a club have a duty to assist him in his rehabilitation ? Knowing his injury recovery record he could be out of football for 12months.

Jesus. Three cruciate injuries at 24 is seriously rough. Gotta feel for him, seemed to be doing well at Tranmere too.

but he is probably right, I liked him but if he does not fit in and keeps getting the same injury then its time to go and get a job

I think we do morally. Hopefully the club will help him out because ultimately he will be unemployable in his job come the summer.

Seemed to have hit his stride at Tranmere and perhaps had found his level as a solid League Two holding midfielder. I hope that when he's fit again he can pick up where he left off and hopefully not suffer any more serious injuries, but I'd say this does close the book on his time at Rovers.

Isn't he our second longest serving player after Coppinger?

Morals don’t have anything to do with this . We can’t offer a contract just so he can get pay packet and free medical care . NHS will do just fine . We have carried crocked player before and all leads to us not having their services for months and then they leave anyway . McCullough is good player but has never completed a full season .

We could allow him access to our physios and training facilities without throwing him under the bus or offering him a contract.

Well he is under contract to the summer so any operation required and initial rehabilitation will be down to us anyway, and I would hope even when we stop paying him our medical staff will help in his recovery...

I bet if Copps popped his knee then nobody would be taking the attitude of shoving him out the door to look after himself come June...

99 appearances in 4 or 5 years for us and 36 for the Trannies,Better player than many have remarked over the years IMO,I had high hopes for Luke in his championship days with us,but just unfortunately suffers from long term injuries that have stopped his playing for long periods.Sad for the lad.

He has played almost every week for Tranmere and they are a top six side in L2.
He has obviously done well for them.

Good luck on his recovery.

His injury costs should be covered by insurance surely, whether ours or Tranmere's god knows but surely players are entitled to be looked after if out of contract and injured.
It could not have come at a worse time both for Luke or Tranmere.

I'm sure our club will do what it can to help him.
Surely our board have proved that they do things the right way.
I'm sure that they will allow him to use our facilities but he just won't be getting a wage from us.
These are the sort of actions that get a club a good reputation.

Don’t think he ever kicked on with us

Reading the report, it appears Tranmere may be doing their best for him.

Gutted for him. I think he is a better player than a lot give him credit for imo. You don’t have to be quick to be a decent player.
Obviously you need others around him in the team to be quick.
He was excellent at tackling & breaking up play in that deep lying midfield position, a good passer and he was decent in the air.
Having said that he was probably always going to be a league 1 or 2 player at best. He always gave 100%
Hope he recovers and wish him well for the future.

Gotta feel for him. Its such a bad injury to pick up and to have 3 at 24 is massive bad luck. I think this is why fans need to cut Danny Andrew some slack. He missed a full season with the same injury and hes come back, not missed a game and lets face it he hasnt been as bad as some have made out has he. Every player dips in form.
