This is the 32nd year since the play-offs were introduced.
Since 4/24 teams make the playoffs every year in each division, you'd have expected us, on average, to have been in the playoffs 5-6 times. But we've only done it twice.
I'll admit, I'm a very big fan of the playoffs. I don't go to football to be entertained. I go for visceral emotion. I want 1.5 hours of life or death struggle. I want it to MEAN something.
Most matches can't live up to that requirement of course. But play off games do. They are heart-in-mouth stuff. Stomach-churning tension.
Tris Whitman's equaliser from nowhere.
The dead time between the ball leaving Dave Cameron's toe and being diverted by Andy Warrington's fingertips.
The smorgasbord of emotions in the penalty shoot out at Chester.
The "come on...come on...YES!" moment of Tierney's goal.
The gritting out at Roots Hall.
The lifetime of a final 15 minutes at Wembley.
I can't wait...legends about to be made.

There's little doubt it's high drama and possibly the best way to get promoted if you had the choice .
I've felt the joy of two play off victories , one on penalties at the Millennium Stadium in 2006 and against Millwall in 2016 when we won fairly easily .
I've experienced defeat in the play off final too , the 2000 Championship play off final to Ipswich Town at the old Wembley .
It remains the biggest disappointment I've experienced as a Tyke , I've never seen any footage of that game and I never will , it still hurts to this day .
The play offs are for winners , there is no glory in simply taking part or getting to the final .

This time around is a strange one though. In both 2002/3 and 2007/8 we were safe as houses in play offs and relatively, one of the stronger teams each of those seasons. These season we are very much the underdog and coming in off some poor form. Anything can happen though, so hold on for the ride!

My sentiments entirely, but that might be just a case of the writer and reader never experiencing defeat in them!

I don't understand.
Surely you're not suggesting we're not going to win them this time round?

I'm often the pessimist these days. I've found I handle disappointment better if I've prepared for it beforehand. Any consequent success then is an unexpected bonus.

You know the weird thing?
Anyone under 30 years old reading this thread will be thinking: David Cameron? Play-offs against us?
Back in 2003, I thought the worst David Cameron could do was to roll the Universe up into a ball and shove it up my arse for half a second.

How wrong you were.

seem to remember the phrase "we are all in it together" then the rat jumped ship

It's called getting old BB; lots of us are suffering from it.
However, as has been pointed out in other posts, we've nothing to lose; all the other teams in the play-offs will consider it a failure not making automatic promotion, whereas finishing 6th constitutes a successful season for us.
Happy days.

Agreed but once you are in the play off’s you want to be the winners. We will not be there just to make up the numbers and there is no reason whatsoever in us having an inferiority complex.
We can win these play offs no question about that.
If the manager and players believe they can do it then they CAN DO IT. :that:
BUT AS I KEEP SAYING WE ARE NOT IN THEM YET.
