About to sign a 2 year deal. BTW, it’s the Reece James from Sunderland and not the Reece James from Chelsea as I first (excitedly!!) assumed!!

Not sure about that.

Not an overly impressive signing especially when you factor in we’ve paid a fee for him.

Yeah 2 assists in nearly 30 games and 0 goals. Although Sunderland were a bit defensive last season.

He’s a full back not sure he’s goalscoring prowess is important

He’s a full back not sure he’s goalscoring prowess is important

We're an attacking team which full backs get high up and get crosses in so his lack of assists does make you question his creativity. We'll obviously see more and know more in the coming weeks.

He got injured and was displaced by Bryan Oviedo, someone who has spent most of his career in the Premier League.

If he stays fit, I think James will be a really good signing for us. Got plenty of experience at this level, playing for bigger clubs than Rovers. Perfect age too.

It seems he wants to play for us, a criteria the management want. We paid a fee for him, which we never do according to some people. He won’t fit in, he isn’t attacking etc etc.
I welcome him to our club. Seems some people are never ever satisfied. People need to get a life, grow up and support the team and club rather than constantly criticising. Or go and support another team.

Big improvement at left back, someone who knows how to defend. He's won promotion twice from this league with Wigan so knows what's needed. Mate up north said we've got a right player, In McCann we trust.

TDF time:

"We never pay money for players. We should pay money for players"

"Why have we paid money for this player?"

Because we wasted to much time on convincing Andrew. (A DF player) He was a free but just signed a one year extension so we had to pay a fee. If he’s not a very good player he’s replaceable.

What's wrong with pointing out a player that is better defensively than attacking in an attacking team might possibly not be the best choice. But like I said I've probably seen him a couple times and can't remember him so don't want to write him off.

Sunderland wanted to keep him hence asking him to extend his stay

He's been promoted from this league

He played 35 games in a top 6 side for most of the season

He's 3 yrs younger than the left back that's gone elsewhere

Danny Andrews needed coaching to play the way GM likes and so there is no reason why James Reece can't do the same and be an even better player for it.

Lets see where this goes but at least we have someone with calibre behind him, and he has a good back up in Amos as well

I think this will be a good signing. I've been reading the Sunderland forum and it's comical. You'd think they were in the upper tier of the premier League, most of them saying he will be good for league 1. Which division are they in again 🤔🤔😆😆 dossers!!

Very happy with this one.  He’s a good age, played most of last season and was only missing the last few games due to injury.

He extended his contract by a year option to stay last week and the papers in Sunderland say it’s a bit of a shock as he was in talks for a two year deal with them this week.

Nice to see us pay a transfer fee too, no idea how much guessing 100-200k?

I know very little about football dealings, but I get the impression that a "free" player can be as expensive as one that a fee is paid for sometimes.

As these things take a little longer than instant, and my impression is that GM does his homework thoroughly on such things like player recruitment. This has been in the pipeline for quite some time. This guy operates from a position of strength and was fully aware that Danny Andrew was a bit flakey hence 'La Voila' instant replacement, quality left back.

On that basis I wouldn't be surprised if one or two more additional pieces to the jigsaw will start to appear to replace the ones going out the door.

"James was a regular last season, making 34 appearances in all competitions. He missed the final two months of the campaign due to injury, however, making his last appearance in the Checkatrade Trophy final defeat to Portsmouth."

Good signing for me, right age, experience, lets hope McCann and Bryne can improve him as they did with Andrew?

As long as GM is getting some good players coming in I don't see why anyone has a problem with it. Why should anyone care what a player is paid or what fees we pay, it's not coming out of our own pocket.

GM did a good job last season and probably will do the same this season.

The only thing that matters is the starting line-up for the first game of the season.

As for fake news that GM or Marquis are leaving, why should they have to openly dispel such rumours?

Does that mean we were trying to sign up Andrew got back up?

Or did Grant find out RJ wanted to come and that’s the reason he pulled the plug on Andrew?

Sounds like he has a list of 3 or so players for each position and as soon as he hear Andrew wasn't coming he got the main target from his list for left back.

Who would you rather DRFC sign .... Danny Andrew a free signing from Grimsby Town a league below us , who hasn't done anything.

Don’t understand the debate over this signing the manager decided he wanted him and he’s got him. So we will only know when we are into the league programme if defensively the two fullbacks signed have improved the side. The manager believes they will.

What? There's brilliant ex-Grimsby or lower league players and shit ex-Man Utd players. Also, there's some quality signings that are free agents and we've made and other clubs have made some shocking signings when spending money. The fact he has a promotion from this league and having played the majority of those games is the only bit that shows good pedigree to me. This isn't specifically Andrew v James. So why Jesus wept?

If you want to hear some thoughts on James from a Sunderland fan, then check out the view of Roker Rapport Podcast's Graham over at the @DRFC_ITEN Twitter page, link here: https://twitter.com/DRFC_ITEN (https://twitter.com/DRFC_ITEN)

You don't have to have an account to view the page as far as I know.

I welcome him to our club. Seems some people are never ever satisfied. People need to get a life, grow up and support the team and club rather than constantly criticising. Or go and support another team.

What's wrong with pointing out a player that is better defensively than attacking in an attacking team might possibly not be the best choice. But like I said I've probably seen him a couple times and can't remember him so don't want to write him off.
I’ll tel you what’s wrong with pointing out anything negative regarding an incoming player that GM has secured the services of....
GM will probably have done his homework and read many reports regarding his ability and has decided he is the better left back

You on the other hand looked for negative stats from the safety of ya keyboard.....but don’t let that fact get in the way of inspired opinions...
By the way ...you certainly aren’t alone....

That's fair enough, however, like any manager he has made some signings which haven't been brilliant in Lewis, Taylor and J. Anderson. I'm not one of those people who only posts negative stuff on here, I'm a realist I know GM has hopefully done his homework and I'd love it if he turned out to be a brilliant signing. Obviously he has a decent pedigree of challenging and winning promotion in a few different seasons.

Aye Mason, who proceeded to play left back, right of a back three, holding midfield, right side of a diamond. And also at right back.

Where did he play Mason? Dickos you don’t half want to create an argument. Leave it alone please.
I didn’t bring up DF name to start this all over again.
We know you are in love with Darren but for .... sake give it a rest.

You brought it up,
He played mason right back or central midfield.

Lewis, Taylor and Anderson were not permanent signings though were they. All loans or very short term contracts.

Just text lad I work with who’s season ticket holder at Sunderland... said James is a solid player, 7/10 most games. He said he’s a very good defender but isn’t the best going forward. Said he would be a good signing for us and he was surprised they let him go as their likely to lose Oviedo too as he’s on a big money each week.
