Title: Call the Copps
Post by: graingrover on June 21, 2019, 06:18:51 am
In view of the need to get a new man on board quickly I would strongly support giving the job to Copps at least until January .
Although Copps has never indicated his desire either to hang up his boots yet, nor to move into management ,the Board know him well ,he knows what we need to flesh out this current skeleton squad ,and I think he is so committed to the club that he would step up.

Copps and Sean O'Driscoll.......................

but that's not going to happen, just dreaming.

But he's not qualified and shown no desire to be a manager.

For me it was over the moment GM was talking to Hull even if he doesn't accept it. I fear he was tapped up, agents are doing their work behind the scenes hence the bookies getting it right early on, that's how football works.

Its not the fact he wants to improve his position that upsets me its the state we have been left in.

Its musical chairs now and we have had some good managers and some bad ones in the past. To be honest GM surprised me but fingers crossed we get a good one again.

I think he had a one year rolling contract was that a good thing?

"Always look on the bright side of life" my fellow supporters, the show goes on.

I jest when I say Copps and Sean O'Driscoll because Sean will not be coming back.

Just look back to when Eddie Howe started at Bournemouth as manager he had Sean there for a time to show him the ropes and give him support.

Clutching at straws really out of depression.

I think that Copps is too much of a gentleman to make a good manager.
Negotiating with mercenary players and managers, not to mention devious hard nosed agents. I just don't think that it's his sort of thing.

But he's not qualified and shown no desire to be a manager.

These two facts make this a dreadful idea. I'd love him to manage us one day if he wanted to go into management but right now, it's nonsensical.

It’s a lovely thought that Copps could do it but I get the impression he’s not cut out for management...yet

Not comparing them as players but Copps & Bobby Charlton are very similar as people - Charlton tried to manage at Preston & flopped. Whereas his brother Jack was a different character altogether & flourished - Copps is too nice to succeed as a manager & nothing should detract from his Rovers legacy as a player & it would be a travesty to hear people in stands hurling abuse at him as a manager

Copps is Mr Nice guy but he does have some excellent qualities for a temp period of management eg honest, knowledge, experience of football, the respect of the supporters and above all he is a motivational speaker.

It would be the chemistry he would develop with his partner that would be important.

As I have already said, the same criticism was made of Eddie Howe when he took over at Bournemouth and he is still there.

The big question is Does Copps want it? I don't think so.

He's a nice chap, but he's spoken of his struggle with being captain at times, I just don't think it would be his bag, and I think he is strong enough to know that.

Goes with the current trend of appointing ex players as managers however it would be a terrible idea.

I would not want to spoil the dream, Copp's is a lovely guy and we all love him, IF he became manager and he didn't do a good job then it would all go bad and a lot would turn against him, as you are only remembered for your last job

Copps not for me as manager..

How quickly could his status diminish if he struggles.?

Leave well alone as a club playing legend, and stay on in an ambassadorial role when he stops..

He has shown very limited interest in retiring yet as a player and similar level of interest in being a manager.
