Not being controversial just asking. I get the board have principles and will not poach and I respect and see that. However we have named some good out of work managers. So my question is this. Why do we not approach someone out of work? Some good names such as Grayson, JFH, etc. A) Would be quicker B) Does someone who applies necessarily be more committed or is it worth approaching someone as they might fancy it. I don' t necessarily see an applicant as more committed necessarily because they applied. I would suggest that the football world works very different to say a car manufacturer in terms of the term manager, so different rules may apply. Just a thought- views?

For the sake of a week I would invite applicants as you never know who may apply.
We could approach someone that we know is available but miss someone who is either working elsewhere or we are not aware of their availability.
In the scheme of things 1 week won’t change too much but will widen the options.

Go for this guy. Good record, young, German residency, seems to tick lots of boxes. Domenico-Tedesco

Someone posted recently, that he thinks it's so we don't have to pay any compensation! It did make me think.
-
But if someone is out of work then we don't pay compensation anyway do we?

I'd be annoyed if it was the case we've got compensation from GM going why can't we use it. And on the compensation how much do we get the remaining salary or is it more like a clause in his contract.I've read that we only get paid what his remaining salary would be but also read that Lincoln are asking for 500k for Cowleys

No compensation.

If a manager is out of work then who would you pay the compensation to? There is nobody. But I take your point that it would be a much quicker process to employ someone who is ready to start work rather than having to negotiate with another club for the release of their manager.

I’m not so sure.
Hull have just done it in 3 days. Whereas we’re looking at probably mid July.
I would’ve thought we had a list of potential managers we could approach, ones we’ve interviewed before, ones in work but we know are suitable candidates and then let other apply for a couple of days.
Then interview the best ones next week, not sure at all why we need to give people a week to apply, the ones who are interested will have already applied

They may well have done the formal bit with Rovers and McCann in 3 days and once we identify the right person we may do as well.
They were already aware that Atkins was dithering over a new contract so they would have started looking at options then like Crowley and the guy from hibs.
I fully expect that informal discussions / checks are being done on known applicants already.

Adkins left Hull on the 8th June, so 13 days in total

Don't rush and get the right one. Rush and get the wrong one?
-
Not suggesting rush,
We didn’t rush when we appointed sod but we went for someone we wanted

There's no way we'd attract someone who last managed Schalke.

Well Doncaster is twinned with Herten, which is in greater Gelsenkirchen, home of Schalke...... ;)

I totally agree with you on this, as someone might do the better interview but not necessarily be the best man for the job

No one has mentioned the other candidates who were interviewed along with McCann, if available, surely these need to be revisited.
