Title: Marquis
Post by: Retdon1 on July 04, 2019, 06:01:48 pm
Anyone seen the Peterborough chairman post a photo of him and John on twitter saying look who I bumped into in la manga, he came for a chat..... probably just trying to get a few rovers fans to bite

John's reply says it all just wishes them the best for the season and nice to meet some ex teammates and Darren

I feel sorry for John. You don't want to meet obnoxious folk when you are on holiday.

I don’t think they will have another £1m plus available for a striker.
They just signed someone for that amount to play up front for them.

They would if they sold Maddison or Tony

Maddison is a good player.
I can’t see Toney being worth a million quid but IF they did come in for John then I would see Toney as a good PX in a deal.
Seeing though as JM wants to play in the division above I don’t envisage him going to Perterbro..

Their chairman said a few weeks ago that Tony would cost several million if a championship club wanted him. Maddison’s buy out clause is £2.5 million

Yeah but let’s be honest, their Chairman is a knob.
No way should Toney be valued more highly than John.

In fact, based on that, John should also bring in several million if he was to move on.

He is a knob but he also knows how to sell players for top money... marquis would be worth a lot more if he had more than 11 months left on his contract.

We need to sort the Marquis situation out now before replacing him becomes an issue
We don’t want to be left with one or two days to get a replacement
Title: Re: Marquis
Post by: IDM on July 05, 2019, 02:11:13 pm
The club will have identified potential Marquis replacements even as far back as January.  There will be plenty going on behind the scenes, and a new manager will have his own ideas or will like the player(s) we have lined up..

How many of the big scoring league 1 strikers have moved yet this summer.?

I hope and suspect you’re right but nothing is a given

Yes it's all gone very quiet on the Marquis front..Probably because none of the clubs who enquired fancied paying the valuation that Rovers have put on him..Still I'm sure his agent is working hard behind the scenes trying to get him a decent club...

For me if we get a good price and he won’t sign a new contract I would sell now if poss, at least that way he won’t go for free or next to nothing
Title: Re: Marquis

He can go for free next summer for me, if his goals take us to promotion, or the play offs again..

Take the money we don’t get from selling now and deduct what we would pay for a replacement etc..

Would be good value if that happened..

McCann said in one of his interviews before he left that they'd had several bigs, but none matched the clubs valuation.

I don't think he will leave, in fact given the current situation, I wouldn't be surprised if the club had changed their stance on letting him leave.

If he's still here for next season, it will be interesting to see which Marquis we get.

If we get the great marquis we will only get him till Xmas then we will have to get rid then anyway realistically so hopefully either sign a new deal or go now for me

If he stays here but he’s wanting to play championship football he’s got to play pretty well until Christmas at least to push a move through though.

It would be brilliant if he signed a new deal but I can’t see it unless he gets a lengthy injury or has a bad season with us.

For me, the ideal is he stays, about a month into the season he signs a new contract with a very clear buy out clause so that it’s easy for his agent to know roughly what will get him a move but also we will get virtually full price for him, more benefit for both parties then if he gives his all til Christmas or the following summer. One thing is for sure, he will give 100% whoever he is playing for and in whichever circumstances he’s playing in.

No winners on this one , if we pass up on new signings in favour of keeping a disgruntled want away striker .

A wantaway player who’s trade is scoring goals, whinis looking to attract a new club, will most likely continue to score goals..

Not a problem to me..

Aye, being a stroppy mardyarse won't get him a move anywhere.

If he doesn't want to be here get rid, we can bring in someone who does want to play for us in his place
Title: Re: Marquis

Why is everyone getting up tight, Marquis may want to get away, who wouldn't if he can get a life changing move on more money. But he has started preseason training, is our player, to my knowledge has not made trouble for anyone, has never refused to play, and until the new manager and another club come in with an offer, if they do nothing will change.
If he can better himself I am quite happy for him to go if we get a decent fee for him, and if he stays he will not let us down, I don't think it is in his interests or his make up. but I cannot see the point in getting heated up before the issue  arises.

I think marquis may want to move to a championship club, simply to play at that level.

I don’t think he wants away from DRFC specifically - but by default to play at a higher level this season he would have to go.  If he doesn’t leave, why would he be disgruntled with us.?

John plays with his heart on his sleeve.
He tries his nuts off every week and I haven’t seen him displaying a mardyarse attitude detrimental to his performances.
I hope he stays.

It looks like he's going through the motions with pre-season. Not taking part in any video interviews like the rest of the players which appears to indicate he would rather be elsewhere and the club understand that.
Title: Re: Marquis

All the comments on here by supporters are guesses at what is going off, and the attitude of John Marquis, and are doing no good whatsoever to any situation there might be within the club.
The management at the club and the player are in control of any situation  (if there is one at all) and at the moment he is our player, training the same as every other player to be ready for the start of next season.
If other clubs are interested in signing John, and John is happy to join them, then it is up to the club to look after their own  interests and get the best deal they can for the player.
It is nothing unusual in football, and as long as John Marquis carries on full filling his contract by training and making himself available for selection what is the problem.
Most people on here will have looked for a better job while in employment, and will have looked to improve their living standards and thought they could have a better life. To do that John will need to carry on scoring goals and playing well, so there is no problem there for me, and until he himself or the club make a statement that there is any problem with their relationship I am not going to guess about anything. I just want the best for both parties concerned, especially the club.

Omg - does that mean that all of the players who haven’t done an interview are going through the motions and want away?
2+2 = 5 it is then. We’re doomed....

This is a bit silly to be honest. In fact there was something put out on social the other day of him meeting a young fan at training.

Him not being in videos bears absolutely no indication as to his effort levels or desire and to suggest he's "going through the motions" because of this is tenuous at best.

I’m sure I saw the other day that he invited a young kid to the training to meet him and his other favourite players, I wonder how many wantaway players that are going through the motions get up to that stuff. I think same as above, it’s not that he doesn’t want to play here, it’s that he does want to be in the champ, and unfortunately cannot do both this season

Exactly that.

I have no issue with him wanting to move upwards a level and being honest about it, as long as he puts his all in whilst he is here.

With his record he has learnt an opportunity and he has been superb here. I hope he goes for good money and does well, win win for both parties then.  If not, offer him a big contract with a release fee in it.
