What will you be watching. Cricket for me. England should do it tomorrow. Should be historic. Should is the slightly worrying word. We will never get a better chance. Tennis is fa poofs.
-
Buzzing for the Cricket... not a tennis fan one bit
-
Cricket. England are playing. Start a poll I say.
-
Cricket, however Federer was immense yesterday
-
Cricket in the box, tennis on the iPad. 🏴🇨🇭
-
Tennis.
Cricket is mind numbingly boring.
Come on Federer! Arguably the greatest sportsman in history.
-
Rugby. Top of the table clash Dons v Whitehaven. Massive game.
-
Also British Grand Prix
-
Why watch the Tennis, the same thing will be on again next year.
-
Tennis every time, the only thing that comes remotely close to football in terms of sporting entertainment for me. Federer is a living legend. Cricket, 9 times out of 10 it's decided by the coin toss. I can watch it but never been that interested in it.
-
Is that even worth a question. Bloody hell our national team in the World Cup final of our 2nd sport and “would you rather watch tennis?”
-
Obviously it is worth a question then seeing a couple of responses. But I’m dumbfounded
-
Cricket.
-
Cricket for me is irrelevant, it doesn't even come in the top 10 of sports for me.
Really looking forward to the Wimbledon final though.
What Federer has achieved is unrivalled in any sport. He's a true gent too.
Cricket? Who's playing like?
-
Cricket.
-
Why ask if you don’t care.?
To answer, it is England vs New Zealand in the World Cup final - one day game format.. England has never won..
Cricket for me too but probably on the radio..
-

The person who asked the question hasn’t said anything like he doesn’t care.
Some people couldn’t care less about cricket,
but may pay attention when it’s a World’s Cup final. More people couldn’t care less about tennis, even less so when it’s a final that doesn’t involve a Brit. I reckon the replies above - I make it 9-2 for the cricket - are pretty indicative of what the population in general thinks.
-
I'd hazard a guess the Wimbledon final will get better tv viewing figures than the cricket final.
-
Cricket.
Never played it & never thought I'd watch it until 2005 but it's fascinated me since on the international level.
What a one day team this England side is, should be a good day tomorrow.
Doesn't mean I haven't enjoyed the tennis too though, that Rafa/Roger semi, wow....
-
Neither😴
-
In case anyone's missed it, the cricket is on channel 4 tomorrow btw.
-
Dons for me should be a great game top of the league but think they might have a shock on there hands with Rangi Chace playing his first game
-
I'd hazard a guess the Wimbledon final will get better tv viewing figures than the cricket final.
Tenner bet for charity Dave? I’d ordinarily agree with you but given the cricket is now on channel 4 I fancy there will be more watching that.
-
Cricket 🏏, been playing every season since 1977, would watch the tennis normally with it being the final . Grand Prix bores me senseless, if it was in my back garden I would draw the curtains
-
I'd hazard a guess the Wimbledon final will get better tv viewing figures than the cricket final.
Tenner bet for charity Dave? I’d ordinarily agree with you but given the cricket is now on channel 4 I fancy there will be more watching that.
Go on then. Tenner to Firefly?

Must be the fittest and most athletic poofs in sport though.
-
Cricket every day.
Wouldn't watch the tennis if they were playing in my back yard. Especially that whining, whinging Scottish person 👎👎

Heard it here first, hound is a poof. ;)
-
Partial to Tennis. Prefer Cricket to Football in some respects.
Buzzing for tomorrow. Every confidence we'll turn the Kiwis over.
-
Tennis is my second sport after Football (granted I enjoy most sports to some degree) so that has my vote. Federer is the best sportsperson of all time in my opinion, and top tennis players are the peak of what an "athlete" is.
Cricket I find fairly dull to watch, but I take a passing interest in Yorkshire and England so have followed their progress at this World Cup. Great that they are in the Final and i hope they win.
F1 i loved when I was younger but it is dreadful now, extraordinarily tedious and I wouldn't bother watching any of it.
-
Cricket is shite, not a big fan of tennis but when it is a big match with top players it is entertaining. If werent on holiday it would be to watch Don's to see if Rangi has still got his magic.
-
Golf course for me then a trip to scarboro to pick the wife up.
-
Cricket
-
Cricket all day long
As someone posted above our second sport with England in a World Cup Final on home turf v the Mens Wimbledon Final with 2 non Englishmen competing. They are superb athletes and will doubtless produce a great Final but for me ....
Cricket today and highlights of British Grand Prix afterwards
-
Cricket 100%
-
Cricket for me too.
Not the slightest interest in the tennis.
-
Cricket
-
Neither too many jobs around the house.
-
Cricket on the radio whilst doing jobs..
Watch the F1 if I get time..
-
Neither too many jobs around the house.
Cricket for me as i am a massive cricket fan. Giving up a day at Headingley supporting Yorkshire to watch the WC final.
A lot of the Yorkshire supporters yesterday said i was a traitor putting England before Yorkshire!!! ;)
Somewhat astounded by that, after all this is a World Cup Final.
They don’t happen every week do they.
As for the tennis, normally i would be watching that as am a fan of that sport also.
Federer v Djokovic should be a brilliant match. Tennis players are fantastic athletes and for someone to call it p...s game is such a ridiculous thing to say.
Try playing for 4+ hrs on your own in 80 degrees heat at that level.
Footballers haven’t lived have they. There are 11 of them on a pitch.
Come on England your time has come. World Champions. We can do it today. :clapping: :woohoo:
-
Federer vs djockavic. The greatest ever sportsman vs one of the greatest in possibly their last grand slam final at Wimbledon, centre Court.
It's gonna be special.
As far as calling cricket the 2nd sport. I bet if the country voted then it would be rugby.
Cricket is very niche due to it being so monotonously boring.

In your opinion. Nearly as boring as you Boomstick.

You might dislike cricket but to call it niche is plain daft. Look at the demand for tickets this World Cup, or the Ashes. Admittedly that’s top level but compare that to what I’d call a niche sport (like squash) and how tickets sell for that.
-
Cricket is our no 1 Summer Sport.
Rugby is our 2nd Winter Sport.
-
Cricket of course - silly question....
-
Cricket, but have decided to support Federer this afternoon, not much to choose between them but the Swiss flag is a big plus
-
Rugby gets bigger crowds but I'd put that more down to the fact it lasts 80 minutes. T20 Yorkshire v Lancashire sells out within a few days months before the fixture. See how that 100 ball thing goes next year.
-
Speaking of boring. Formula 1 is good up until the first corner of the first lap. After that it's terrible.
-
Cricket lovely cricket every time. Better than football or tennis for me.
-
Cricket from the comfort of my Caravan at Pentewen Sands Cornwall 🌞🌞🌞🌞
-
Cricket followed by F1
-
Cricket is pointless, barely even a sport.
Tennis is just about the most physically and mentally tough sport there is.
-

Awful ‘sport’. Almost as bad as golf. Both absolutely soporific and ruin football coverage for months on end.
Football then cricket for summer months.
-
Could anybody tell me how i can watch the tennis please? Im away in Germany and cant watch BBC. Cheers
-

Mo Farah should be winning Wimbledon every year then surely? Ridiculous post.

I think the Tour de France lads, triathletes and even rugby league players would laugh at that comment

I said just about.
I've played tennis at a very good level, and with your comment, it's pretty obvious you know nothing about the sport.

I played for my local tennis club and for the school team until I was about 14/15 so I know a bit about tennis. I didn’t mind playing it just fine it very boring to watch. Also I didn’t find playing tennis particularly physically demanding either
-
Cricket is our no 1 Summer Sport.
Rugby is our 2nd Winter Sport.
not rugby league it's not Campsall

Cricket from the comfort of my Caravan at Pentewen Sands Cornwall 🌞🌞🌞🌞
nice pub across the road called the ship does cracking food and loads of cask ales as well
-
Professional tennis players have to be unbelievably fit, and they have to combine it with nuanced skill to be successful. No doubt elite cyclists and long distance runners have to put more in physically, but do they need to apply anywhere near the same level of skill? It's just running or cycling forwards really, isn't it?

You do realise there's unbelievable amounts of mental strength required for both too.
-
Loving the tennis so far. Great first set.
-

Can't separate them at the minute. Federer is mixing has game up brilliantly though.

Of course I do, but that's a different thing from skill.
I watch pro cycling too, and I enjoy the big athletics tournaments so I'm not disparaging either of those sports, I just think tennis players are the more impressive sporting athletes for the reasons I outlined in prior posts.
As I also said, I enjoy most sports. Even ones I don't watch much like golf or cricket I still take a passing interest in and keep up with the results.
-
Tennis with the best players at their best is breathtaking, it really is.
I keep saying I want to go Wimbledon, maybe next year.
-
242 to win for England. Happy with that.
Roy nearly out LBW first ball. Very lucky on review. Phew.

-
Anyone who says tennis is crap clearly isn't all there.
This is brilliant stuff.

Nope. Have raced bikes for 40 odd years. There is judgement, a lot of tactical nous, a certain amount of team work, bike handling and mental fortitude but you're right, its 99% an athletic endeavour. You wouldn't get much of an argument from any racer.
-
Think we can shake hands on a dead heat after today, can't we? Both brilliant sports on this day.
-
I understand people finding cricket boring. You have to get beyond superficial appearance to comprehend what it entails.
It requires a marvellous combination of control, aggression, strategy, skill, concentration and raw courage. I can't think of any other sport that combines the mental and physical aspects to the extent that cricket does.
And anyone who scoffs at the "physical" aspect has obviously never had a 5oz piece of hard leather whistle past their nose at 75mph which I have, nevermind the regular 90-95mph that the top players deal with regularly.
I used to play at a decent level (old South Riding League) and was a reasonably competent batsman. But I once faced a 95mph delivery from a bowling machine and I couldn't even focus on the ball, let alone make a rational choice of shot.
My uncle Mick Prendergast played 200 games as centre forward for Sheffield Weds and Barnsley in the 70s. He was absolutely fearless. Renown for putting his head where others wouldn't put their foot.
He was mates with Alan Ward who was a fast bowler for Derbyshire and England. Mick once told me he went to the cricket nets with Alan and faced a few deliveries from him. Even though Mick was a high level professional sportsman, he also said he couldn't focus on the ball. And he said it was terrifying having the ball whistle past him, even though Alan was deliberately bowling not at his body.
I have nothing but awe-filled respect for top level batsmen.

You obviously didn’t find it demanding because you played it for fun and nowhere near the level that pro tennis players do.
For those two today to play for four and a half hours and maintain that level of concentration is beyond the ability of a school team tennis player.
No disrespect aimed at you but it is a fact.

I was a superb fielder and enjoy Cricket immensely
You are right in what you say re facing the fast stuff. I dont know how the hell Batsman these days do it. I mean someone 22 yards away pegs a ball at you at say 90 mph
The ball is tiny and you have a split second to decide its length, its line and its speed and depending on those three factors what you are going to do with it.
I thought Cricket was good when I used to regularly watch it in the 60s 70s and 80s BUT it surpasses those standards now by MILES. Batsmen now are also supposed to check what the bowler is going to bowl checking as they run in where they are gripping the ball Seam up Seam offset Seam crossed
Effin hell thats at 22 yards plus and you are trying to read what the Bowler is going to do.
Big respect to them all and well done England today. If someone had written that as a script people would have said "stupid" "would / could never happen" but it did and I almost saw it all
OK I missed the last bit because I was gutted we had lost and went to the Pub with 4 overs left ! In 1966 when West Germany went 1-0 up I went oout to play Football because I "couldnt face up" to the fact we were losing and I dont know why I came back in but it was in time to see the equaliser !

As have those saying tennis is shite.
-
Indeed, then again I wasn’t one of those..
I can find any sport good to watch, even those I don’t particularly like normally, if I chance upon it and the game itself is compelling and competitive..
-
I'd hazard a guess the Wimbledon final will get better tv viewing figures than the cricket final.
Tenner bet for charity Dave? I’d ordinarily agree with you but given the cricket is now on channel 4 I fancy there will be more watching that.
Go on then. Tenner to Firefly?
Deal. Good luck!
According to this, 4.7 million for cricket, 10.2 million for the tennis.

BBC now have an article on it where the numbers are closer but still more watching the tennis.

Nope, cricket remains boring and I can't see the interest in such a slow and time consuming 'sport'.
Yawn.
The tennis was however amazing, lived up to the hype.
-
Like I say. Some folk struggle to get past the superficial level.

Maybe, but the viewing figures of the tennis and cricket say it all about cricket

No. It says it all about the viewers.

Clearly shows that tennis is by far a more popular, entertaining and enjoyable sport.

But what about the Sky figures? They could make all the difference :)...
Just kidding. I've doubled up given it was a bit of a landslide (unlike the games themselves).
-
Yes. Like I said. It says it all about the viewers.
I'm very impressed with high level tennis by the way. No axe to grind there. But as a spectacle, involving far more facets of human endeavour, cricket knocks it into a cocked hat.
If more people want their entertainment served up in easier-to-dugest form, that's fine. I have no problem with that. I just don't see the need to abuse A to show your enjoyment of B.
-
Love Island,Big Brother, Towie etc. also get a lot of viewers watching but who in their right minds would watch dross like that?😳

But your quip at the viewers is nothing more than an insult.
Do a poll of your uni students, maybe.
-
No it's not an insult. It's a pretty unarguable fact that cricket is more multi-facetted than tennis. Both are enjoyable but in different ways.
-

Not at all.
List me the elements that go into a game of tennis compared with cricket, then come back to me.
-
What on Earth happened to the maxim "Each to their own"?

Aye OK then, 10 million plus people have a different opinion to you, so they must be wrong.
Jesus wept!
Claiming cricket has far more facets of human endeavour is laughable, and shows your lack of knowledge of sport.
The 1 thing that cricket might, might have over tennis is the tactical nous that goes into it. But thats it, and only just.
-
Both sports are very different, band very popular.. some folks like the one, others both.
-
I'm not belittling tennis because the best players are wonderful sportsmen. I watched the Nadal-Federer semi and was enraptured. That was sport at the highest level.
But there are aspects to cricket which tennis doesn't have. There's no question of that.
Physical intimidation is the biggest issue. You have 300milliseconds between the ball leaving a fast bowler's hand and flying past your nose. And the batsman has to choose self-defence, played defence or played attack in that time.
I've played in a Doncaster League match in which a player was taken to hospital unconscious with a fractured skull. I've had my own nose put across my face. Those aspects aren't present in tennis and they bring a whole world of other issues into the game.
I'm not trying to belittle tennis in the slightest. Just answering someone who is dismissing cricket.
-
I surely can't be the only person in the country that kept switching channels frequently at appropriate moments to watch both. Incidentally I would give the cricket 100/100 and the tennis 99/100 but that's just my opinion. Disagree or not, I couldn't care less.
-

RR45, I was also channel hopping.
About an hour before the end of the two matches I got the feeling that they would both finish at exactly the same time and I was beginning to wonder which game I would favour.
I decided that it would have to be the cricket, simply because it was England in a WC final.
As we know, the tennis finished slightly earlier so I got to watch the last bit of the cricket without having to flick back over to Wimbledon.

Ditto mate. I had the added complication that the missus kept shouting that the Sunday dinner was on the kitchen table getting cold 😁
-
I had both on. Cricket on the telly and the tennis on my phone.
-
I had the cricket on the radio whilst watching no. F1..
Had neither been on, I may have watched the tennis too..
