Title: It’s written
Post by: since-1969 on July 31, 2019, 09:13:01 pm
That if you fail to prepare , then prepare to fail.
We have failed to persuade a half decent striker to stay because we didn’t prepare to build a promotion side that JM would be able to stay with . It’s believed he wanted Championship football , but goes to a team that hasn’t got it but wants it more than we do.

DM is a great start but obviously too late . We loose the best pair of loan signings the club has ever had and demonstrate what a good side could be like . We failed to scrape through in the playoffs and it started an exodus of players and staff. The board took it on the chin and started the bounce back .

Shrewsbury and Plymouth both took the same road and we’re following by doing what they did , by shipping players out and not replacing them . I know it’s early days and JM hasn’t even kick a ball for Pompey and already it’s left an empty feeling of  frustration that seems to stem from always  following for the same old hard luck story . GB is a story teller and it’s begging to eco of B*****s.

errm  it seems the player wanted to move back down south to be nearer to his partners family.    Family comes first whether you are footballer or not so to put it bluntly yet again you are spouting total bollox to suit what you think/agenda and I can't be arsed with the rest of the tripe  ;)

What the f**k are you on about.?

If we had a budget for top six last season, where did we finish.?  Are you not even reading the other threads where people report what the club is saying about new signings.?

What are you trying to prove here.?

The actual actions nowhere near back up the so called ambition.

Our actions aren’t finished yet.

You know all , let’s see who’s the replacement older or younger , better or worse . Why is the answer not obvious or it’s that my opinion is just that and not one what fits yours or anybody else’s that has bought their season ticket without answers .

You can hold whatever opinion you like - don’t come back with the “opinion” argument - but if your opinion is extreme or appears flawed, then prepare to be questioned or criticised..

I buy my ST to support the team, not on the strength of the squad.

If you think the only difference about Pompey is their ambition you're deluding yourself. It's a completely different beast of a club. Marquis wanted to move south. No brainer. Look at their attendances and recent history.

Did you honestly think we'd keep Kane/Wilks??? How the hell was that going to happen... even if promoted there was no guarantee

Board is always going to speak aspirationally. But they're not daft and will do what is right by the business long term.

If the club is so crap why bother.

More than happy with the cash for Marquis. A decent striker for sure and fantastic for rovers while he was here but no worldy. We have a good team that will provide lots of chances at league 1 level to most out and out strikers so not concerned this early. Marquis was all profit to us so gives us funds to buy another young striker to nurture and strengthen in depth.
Onward and upward in Moore we trust

Anyone who still isn't concerned at all, even at this stage, about our chances this season needs their pulse checking.

Let's not mess about here. This pre-season has been a complete shambles.

Yes, we replaced the manager with a decent bloke who could be good, but took an age to do so. And now here we are, three days (yes THREE days) away from the season and we have barely even got started replacing the talent we had last season, let alone actually improving the squad.

I wouldn't even mind the sale of Marquis in isolation. £2m is a good deal for a L1 striker with a year left on his contract. Good luck to him. It's that PLUS all the above that is worrying.

As it stands, this bare bones squad isn't even as good, in depth OR in quality, as the one from 2017/18 which stayed up by just 6 points. Alfie May is currently the only available striker at the club who had regular L1 football last season, and the geezer only scored 2 league goals. Marquis, Rowe and Wilks scored 40 between them last year. Where are the goals going to come from this time?

Despite the usual messaging coming out from Gavin Baldwin bullshit factory, about wanting to improve on last year, having good players lined up to come in, "don't panic", etc, at the moment this isn't a club that looks at all serious about doing well next season. If it were, it wouldn't be so seemingly indifferent about getting a competitive squad together in advance of the season, giving the manager time to prepare for the challenges ahead. The lack of urgency all around has been breathtaking.

But to end on a high note, with Bury and Bolton on -12 we can't be bottom of the league until at least 4 games in. So don't say I don't say owt positive.  :P

  • Now Marquis, our 7th top goalscorer of all time. Gone.

It's an odd determination to criticise the club for not doing the things you want them to do in the manner in which you want it done.
