Title: Indian restaurants
Post by: Nudga on August 09, 2019, 05:43:20 pm
It's my missus' fotty'eth in a couple of weeks.
Can anyone recommend a decent curry house for about 15 people.

What's Taj Mahal/poppadoms and cream like nowadays?

The Ring Of Fire in Bentley is supposed to be good if you want to impress the missus with posh nosh in an exclusive area. I think it's proper name is Masala.

Elachi’s in Armthorpe is consistently decent, and there’s meant to be a nice one in Retford that’s considered one of the best around.

R lass says there’s a decent one in Bentley but I dunno what it’s called 🤷🏻‍♂️

Akbar's? Yeah that's very good.

But Ashoka on Ecclesall Road in Sheffield is probably the best I've ever had. I know lots of other people who use it regularly and I've never heard anyone say a word less than fantastic about it.

Agree with Jenny, Taj Cottage in Tickhill next to the former Tickhill Institute which is now closed.

I'd recommend Taj Cottage as well. Must be good as we've seen Andy Butler in there

We went there my wife bit her tongue and couldn't eat her Prawn curry meal they very kindly put it into a tin foil take out box, when she opened it later all of the Prawns has been stolen! We will NEVER go there again.

Spice n ice on Wheatley hall road. Looks shit on the outside but pretty good in. You can then go the market for a bit of music

I've always been a big fan of the Khyber SM however I had a meal at the Curry Leaf in Epworth a few weeks ago and thought that was even better...

OK, just been to the aagrah for my sons birthday, class as always.

So decided on Oriental Palace in Sprotbrough for the wife's b'day instead.

Thanks for all your suggestions though, some good ideas for the future.

When we were in China 90% of the food was rubbish.
It's certainly nothing like the Chinese food here.

Very true, travelling through Nanning we ordered a chicken that lasted all night cos we couldn't get a knife into it.

The Chinese food we have here isn't Chinese that's why. You'd never find any of it in China.

We did find similar and our favourite was Szechuan, nice and spicy.
Most of the other offerings were bland.
We travelled from Shanghai up the Yangtse to Cheng Du,Xian and Beijing so we tried food in different areas of China.

Food from northern China is blander, not that I've been but there are some local restaurants here from that area.

I've worked in China 3 times, several weeks at a time in Beijing and in Outer Mongolia. The food served in chinese restaurants over here would be unrecognisable over there. They have lots of vegetables, meat of any kind is quite expensive over there, but the food away from the tourist spots is wonderful lots of flavours. In Mongolia I had the best lamb ever, and I don't normally eat lamb. A full lamb had been boiled to remove the excess fat and then slow roasted, it fell off the bone and was delicious. Lots of Duck restaurants and no western food except in the hotel. Mindst you I did have the worst taste of food there, Camels Hump it was a gelstinous mess but out of curtesy you had to try it, never again.

To be fair we went with Wendy Woo tours and they looked after everything. The only thing was they bussed you to whichever restaurant you were having your meal in so you weren't choosing your eatery.
The four nights on the Yangtse boat was nice food though.
Some of the food on the stalls in the street looked a bit rough though. There were some things like cooked large rats heads with two massive teeth at the front.😳
