Title: Hong Kong
Post by: redarmy82 on August 13, 2019, 04:10:07 pm
Really sad to see what is happening here. Lived there for a spell, and it's one of my favourite cities in the world.

Worrying to see how this is panning out.

Chinese have the army ready to go in on the border. Get ready if that happens.

It does look worrying and it's becoming fast a situation where both sides are doing wrong and it will quickly escalate if not careful.  Will China care about that? Probably not.

Ready for what? Do you think any country in the Western world will do much other than say how awful it is, because I can't see any action being taken against China at all.

You need to do some research,

Into what, the history if the lack of response when a world superpower does something awful within it's own borders?

As for China, they've been throwing their weight around in the South Pacific for years, especially towards Taiwan. What's been our response there?

Taiwan simply isn't the same. If China decide to go into Hong Kong, it will have serious repercussions economically globally. Like I said, do some research.

Still waiting for a response from the West. When does your research say there'll be one?

I was there last year. It's always been near the top of my list of must go to places. I was not disappointed one bit. One thing I will say its not how I imagined it to be. You defiantly need sometime there to see and take it all in. If the train system is working again with the troubles its second to non, a true lesson in efficiency and does not cost the earth with the Octopus card (?) like London's Oyster card. Enjoy.

I did go a few years ago and got a bit of a shock to see the shoebox flats most live in with steel grills on the doors, so am looking forward to this couple of days to relax before my onward flight.

Skipped the snake's blood and had some delicious wonton soup and fried pork dumplings. Just a quick mention I watched the Galatasaray v Real Madrid game live on the plane, a first for me the satellite connection was pretty good.

Hot tip live from HK Airport, when visiting b sure to go to the

Cheung Hing Kee Shanghai Pan-fried Buns

which we tried only minutes from the hotel. excellent and recommended in the Michelin guide.
