Resigns to deny voters the chance to sack her;

Interesting spoiler as a no hope Indy.
Wheels coming off?

Oh Dominic, Dominic, Dominic lad. What HAVE you done?

This is turning into Labour, 1981/82.
Quite something to watch. The Tory party was always renown for its internal discipline. And then that madman gets hold of the reins and it falls apart in the blink of an eye.
Beat them in the upcoming election and they'll be f**ked for a generation.
-
Makes you wonder though, doesn't it. Just how chaotic it would have been under Corbyn or Milliband if this is strong and stable government...
-
Falling apart, imploding I would think.
-
Probably does n’t want to be jailed with Boris

I was in a meeting with Amber Rudd a few years ago when she was Secretary of State for Energy (before BEIS came along).
Utterly clueless.
-
Is it unprecedented for a Cabinet Minister to resign not only from the Cabinet but the party as well? I can't recall it happening before.
-
I've a vague recollection that Reg Prentice might have done in Wilson's Govt in the 70s. He was certainly a Cabinet minister and he left to join the Tories.
But yeah. Very, very rare. Also pretty much unheard of to have two Cabinet ministers resign on matters of principle within 7 weeks of taking office.

Yes, Prentice did that. I'd forgotten him.

I've looked up Prentice. Not clear but I think he may have resigned as a minister a few months before he left the Labour party.
As did the only other one I can see who comes close...Oswald Moseley.

Her ex husband, AA Gill, should have had a better influence on her. I find it strange how two people in a marriage can have such differing views. I always remember this quote of his about leaving the EU;
We listen to the Brexit lot talk about the trade deals they’re going to make with Europe after we leave, and the blithe insouciance that what they’re offering instead of EU membership is a divorce where you can still have sex with your ex. They reckon they can get out of the marriage, keep the house, not pay alimony, take the kids out of school, stop the in-laws going to the doctor, get strict with the visiting rights, but, you know, still get a shag at the weekend and, obviously, see other people on the side.
Really, that’s their best offer? That’s the plan? To swagger into Brussels with Union Jack pants on and say: '’Ello luv, you’re looking nice today. Would you like some?'

Brexiters I know didn't vote to leave on the proviso of striking a deal. That doesn't mean they were opposed to striking a deal after Brexit, but they didn't want it to be a condition of it. This is also the general consensus of Brexiters on social media.

From what I can see Prentice resigned from Cabinet in December 1976 and switched parties, crossing the floor Nick Boles style, in October 1977. Happy to be corrected on this tho.

I'd be more convinced if any of them had said it at the time

none of them sais anything about it at the time.
The sack of sh1t they voted for was ' the EU need us more than we need them ' , ' they are sh1tting themselves ' , 'they will come begging for trade deals before we leave ' . remember ?
I would laugh , if it wasn't so pathetic and they are dragging us down with them !
