No forward on brilliant

????

I can see 4 forwards there.  Ok no traditional out and out no 9 striker, but to claim we have no forwards is quite ridiculous..

No striker would make more sense.
We’ve a very threadbare squad, a couple of injuries or suspensions and were always going to struggle.

Not saying we won’t get a result today but on paper, that must be the weakest bench we have had in a very long time.

According to the title of this thread we seem to be playing away at Pompey, rather than at home!   :)

Is Kwame ineligible today?

I'm guessing he's not up to full fitness yet. And anyway he's not good enough. Apparently.

Was that Copps doing a cruyff turn in the middle of the park to bamboozle two of their players totally.?

How we doing? Sounds like we’ve created a few chances?

8 shots to 2, 2 on target to 0. Rovers have this coming.

Pretty good performance.. Pompey not offering much threat.. we are moving it about well, and just need to make those chances a little more clear cut..

Alfie May very unlucky with his cracker hitting the bar, and what can we say about Copps that hasn’t already been said in the 140 years he’s played for us.!

Bound to happen. Pressing for a goal, open at the back. Not finishing on our part doesn’t help.

That's what happens when we don't take our chances, just like VS Blackpool.

So frustrating.

Which of our chances would a number 9 have buried then.?

Two off  the woodwork, May earlier and now Whiteman

It's not only about the chances though, it's the presence a striker would offer compared to Sadlier, you'd then have Sadlier in his best position, no May in the pitch, so then it's totally different

Sadliers

But it’s not just that is it, a proper goalscorer makes the right runs, gets in the correct positions.
There’s no doubt in my mind we wouldn’t have lost today or v Blackpool with a goalscorer in the side
Title: Re: Pompey v TLOD
Post by: IDM on October 05, 2019, 05:01:33 pm
Says they blocked a good few of our shots and we hit the bar twice. Their first goal was after James looked to have slipped..

Can’t blame this defeat on a lack of a no 9; we created plenty without one..

They were well drilled at the back, but oh my god I'd prefer to watch a dickov team than them for a season. If we played them again another 10 times they wouldn't get a point.

I’d like to say how good the ifollow commentary was today.  Marty Blair was very very good on there with Robbie.  He’s very intelligent, gives a good outlook on the players and also the team set up and tactics.  I’m sorry we lost but I enjoyed their match broadcast together and their insights.  I hope Matty recovers quickly of course but get him back on whenever you can again  ifollow

Creating chances isn’t the problem, it’s finishing them off.
A number 9s job isn’t to create its to finish them off so not sure what the point is you’re trying to make

Look at yesterday”s game.

Apart from the one Sadlier chance, how would having a no 9 have made any difference to Whiteman, Taylor, Coppinger missing the target with good chances.?

With a number 9 we would perhaps have played differently and created different chances of course, but there’s no guarantee that a no 9 would have scored them or not had his shots blocked..
Title: Re: Pompey v TLOD

Of course not
But we’ve outplayed the majority of sides we’ve played this season yet we’re amongst the lowest 3 or 4 goal scorers in the division.
It’s not difficult to conclude that this is due to us not having purchased a replacement for marquis
