We went to the pub in Bradford after that game to celebrate stopping up.
That went well.😳
-
Pure bad luck stopped us stopping up.
................Oh, and cheating officials.

4th goal on here, a mere 21 passes.
-
Never known why that clip has the last two goals in the wrong order..
-
Watching the quality in that team compared to the present one is soul-destroying don't you think?
....And THAT side was relegated from the Championship! I honestly think we'd be celebrating Corners instead of goals if our current squad got promoted!

Bit harsh that BB

I was at Elland Road that day in a hospitality box, right behind the Leeds fans.
It was great how they were getting annoyed and frustrated as we made all those passes and when Billy scored I couldn’t stop myself from letting rip the “yeeeeeesssssss”.
I was lucky to get out alive.

CR. Barnsley have half a dozen players worth over a million quid in their side and it's likely they're going down.
When will WE EVER aspire to that sort of strength?

There are a lot of teams in the Championship who have spent a lot of money and are still poor.

Their problem is not lack of players with ability. They need a couple more old heads in the team.

The movement of all the players is superb.

Drooling here watching that back. Brilliant stuff.

I thought the same.
Oh well.

................Oh, and cheating officials.
Really, BB? Match officials cheating? How come?
Just asking.
-
How come? Because they were intimidated, I suppose. Of all the games I saw that season Rovers received absolutely nothing from officials in terms of the benefit of the doubt.
Three penalties were given against us that weren't even in the penalty area, never mind the dubiousness of them being actual infringements anyway. The last one of those was against Leicester in the final game, giving them a one-nil win and sending us down. I genuinely believe that none of those penalties would have been given in our favour.
Those are just three examples of three games where we lost points because of such decisions. If only we got one of those decisions in our favour we'd have stayed up.
-
Was one of them away at Watford where the foul was outside the penalty area and the attacker was also moving away from the box.?
-
This was one......
-
Certainly looks like it.. shocking decision.!

Leicester one looks on line to me

This. And I have read comments on here this season and last to the effect that we have players of equal or superior quality to those we had in the Championship. Laughable.

Watched it a few times, certainly a hard decision to give at the time and not as obvious as the Watford one. I think upon reflection both decisions were wrong and we were unlucky.
Having said that when we went on a run like we did in that final 7 games it's clutching at straws a bit to blame it solely on officials.

Mahrez dived as well for the Leicester one.
I dont think anyone is blaming the relegation solely on the officials.
For me a big reason for our problems in those last seven games was the absence of Wellens who picked up an injury at Leeds.
-
Fine margins.. I remember Sharp having a very close diving header at Forest (?) which would have won the game - or would it have been a draw..
A red card at Millwall wrongly awarded..
Birmingham’s 96th minute equaliser at Bolton, on the last day.
-
We were cheated away at Ipswich Town during the run in.
-
There was a certain level of eagerness in decisions given in favour of 'bigger' opposing teams, emphasised by a reluctance to give them to Rovers. This occurred in every game I witnessed in the two periods we had in the Championship.
-
I remember the one at Watford. The ref could see the divot where Husband had planted his foot, which was clearly outside the area but he couldn't wait to blow, even without looking at the evidence.
Not dissimilar to the ref who could only count 7 yards and refused to recount it!
The Leicester one was silly on Husbands part. An open invitation for Nugent to go down.
We deffo got the rough end of the Wedge that season.
-
It was Mahrez who took the chance to dive DBR.
Nugent took the pen.

I get what you say, BB; it’s just that I think your description of the referees as “cheating officials” an unfortunate choice of words. No matter what you think of their performances, I find it impossible to believe that they were cheating. If so, for what purpose?
Only asking!
-
I can only guess why they cheat. I imagine it is more because of intimidation like I've already told you, than any suggestion of financial gain. I use the word cheat because I believe officials treated Rovers unfairly by their inequality. That is cheating.
-
A matter of semantics BB I think
IMHO the word 'cheat' requires active knowledge of the defrauding action, which I think is not quite what you mean
At law, cheating is a specific criminal offence relating to property. Historically, to cheat was to commit a misdemeanour at common law. ... For example, under English law it was held in R. v. Sinclair that "[t]o cheat and defraud is to act with deliberate dishonesty to the prejudice of another person's proprietary right."
Not sure you are meaning that referees, by being intimidated, are actively cheating. 'Bottling' maybe. Certainly the end result can be seen as unfair, but maybe cheating is slightly too strong.
-
Dutch, yes cheating is a strong word, and I use it intentionally because I find it appalling that football officials, who are there to penalize cheating, apply their own form of cheating by their occasional inequality, which is both dishonest and deliberate.
