Title: If we do get a new no9 !
Post by: sha66y on January 10, 2020, 02:42:26 pm
What would be the formation?

who would be dropped to facilitate this additional player?

and how would that affect the balance of the team?

We can’t Field 12 players so who is the make weight and why?

That’s a good question and IMHO it would depend perhaps on the opposition we see facing, and the fit was of our players..

If we stay with the one up front then it’s competition with Ennis with one on the bench.

Otherwise it’s one of Copps, Taylor or Sadlier making way to allow 2 up top.

Realistically I think changes would be made during the game with substitutions.

Would you drop Ennis to the bench just to get a look at the new striker?
Because if we get an all singing all dancing no9 who takes 3-4 games to get his game together and we end up struggling for results , this will more than affect everything we are doing....
For some to suggest we can just adapt quickly to a couple of new signings is a bit silly.....

Even 4-4-2 would be hard to make work without losing something..... in my opinion

Unless we have an injury or a formation change I would expect a new signing to start from the bench..

Then again if our form dips the manager may want to change.. Ennis seems to welcome competition for his place too.

4-1-3-2, easy. Sheaf gives way and gives you a nice balance of 5 defensive players and 5 attacking players.

We are sometimes over run in midfield because of the gap between whiteman/Sheaf and the front 4 .....all you have done is made that gap bigger and asked for more from whiteman surely?

Like I said ...any addition will cause an effect but not necessarily a positive one

Nudga, That aint going to happen unless Sheaf get's injured, his form since Peterborough has seen him the main man.

There shouldn't be any gaps with that formation, that's what it's design is for, to stop teams breaking the lines.

If it's not working, then the 3 in midfield aren't doing their job properly when out of possession.

The other solution is this new number 9 that every one desperately needs just battles it out with Ennis for that one spot.

4-4-2 is a shit formation unless you've got a midfield destroyer, a play maker and two fast wingers who can cross.

Would possibly need a new midfielder as well but 433 for me. Ennis, new striker and copps as your front 3 with whiteman in the middle of a midfield 3. Possibly Blair and sheaf/Gomes either side of him. That then gives you options for rotation in that front 3 with having Taylor and sadlier as well and could take a bit of the burden off coppinger

This is what we pay the manager to deal with..

Its upto them to play themselves into the team. We are in form at the moment. If the goals arent coming and we arent converting opportunities you would think it would either be Taylor Sadlier or Ennis. It definitely wont be Copps. Hes the link in the team and we have nobody who can do what he does. And football has move on from 2 strikers unless you are losing.

This is what we pay the manager to deal with..
It is indeed.

Why change a system that is water tight. We don’t concede goals so that gives us every chance of winning football matches.
Without stating the obvious if you keep a clean sheet then 1 goal wins you the game
Concede 1 and you need to score 2 to win.
Concede 2 and you need to score 3 to win.

We are not a team that’s going to average scoring 2 goals a game.
So it would be complete madness to take Sheaf out of the team.
Clean sheets are gold dust. The more we have the more points we will accumulate this season.

Any one remember 2012/13. Pretty football only gets you so far. Winning teams have steel and are miserly.
Very few teams are automatically promoted if they concede over 55 goals in a league season. In fact very few teams get into the play offs if they concede 60.

If we signed a Brian Stock we wouldn’t need Sheaf unless Whiteman was injured.

There is nothing wrong with signing a player who will give the manager selection problems.
It gives him options and makes the players in possession of the shirt an extra incentive to play well.
All top teams have good players in reserve who can make a difference when they come onto the pitch.

Except us, of course, Hound!

I’m being flippant, of course. I’ve got everything crossed here, that the dam will burst next week and we get 3 or 4 signed.
