Title: The man who fell outside?
Post by: karldew on January 20, 2020, 10:33:36 am
Anyone know if the man who fell near the car park at FT is alright? He’d gone over on one of the legs on the metal barriers and bust his nose after a thud on the ground.

A couple of people were trying to help him up and stewards were on the radio to paramedics when we were walking by.

Cant't understand what the thinking is regarding the new barriers outside the West Stand. Upon exiting the West Stand you can't turn right because of the barriers and since Saturday when you turn left there are now barriers. They have left a gap small enough to get a couple of people through at a time. i thought at the time it was an accident waiting to happen. I'm sure the club employ someone to purposely piss off the fans in the West Stand.

Title of this thread has the air of an Alfred Hitchcock film about it.

Some very odd decisions at the ground this weekend.

The barriers blocking off the walk to car park 3 are a joke. You can’t walk between the training pitches to the car park at all. No steward said a thing until we got there and then we had to weave between the away buses to get back to the main road to walk down. When I asked the “steward” why we couldn’t get through and why he thought it was a good idea to send home fans directly into the away buses he said “not my problem now get walking”.

For a club priding itself on fan experience that was shocking. Considering everything else on match day(not the food) is so good that was very very disappointing.

I walked into one on the way out, banging my leg. It's OK now since I put some barrier cream on it but that's not the point. A lot of people would have sued, but luckily for them, I'm not the kind of guy to take a fence.

I know the guy in question.

He’s black and blue, pretty banged up. He got looked after by the first aiders and got patched up at the ground. The crowd barriers that were introduced were not clearly seen in the crowds leaving the ground and the dark car park. They also created a funnel of congested people into the same area and as you can’t see your feet in these circumstances, he appears to have tripped on one of the legs of the barriers

He’s still very shuck up and sore by the incident. He is a very fit guy for his age and steady on his feet.

Thanks to the first aiders who were there to help

Excellent (fence) post there

Yes BB sees a joke and knows how to picket - leaving rest of us paling into insignificance

I was very surprised to see the new line of barriers outside the West Stand and I would have thought they create problems rather than solve any.
Surely it can't be a good idea to 'funnel' the crowd through a small gap? This just caused congestion.

I'm not surprised someone has tripped on one of the feet of the barriers.
It's not a well-lit area.

It seems totally unnecessary to me, because as soon as you've funnelled through the gap, the crowd spreads out again.

What baffles me is why cars a allowed to drive round the stadium road as people are coming out of the exits

After thirteen years of life without these barriers, there must be a reason for their introduction and related costs.

I've been to games elsewhere that use these as fans arrive, as a form of control. However, these are removed during the game.

Yes - it seems strange because you put vehicles and people "in the mix" together at a time when the people are distracted talking to themselves and dodging other people and may not notice the cars (less of a problem on night games as Cars have their lights on of course)

If the owners of the cars gave themselves another 5 minutes 95% of the crowd will have gone, there’s always a lot of people on the South West corner but at least a couple of cars think it’s there devine right to dry straight through the crowd, god knows what will happen if someone gets hit, would Rovers be held to account because it is on private land . Perhaps the powers that be should have a quiet word

I raised it a few weeks ago and they showed a presence to ‘direct’ cars v fans for one game only but it’s back to normal now and an accident/incident waiting to happen!

Title of this thread has the air of an Alfred Hitchcock film about it.

I thought it was a low-budget remake of an old David Bowie film.

Hope the chap concerned is OK.
