Title: 5 Things We Learned from Coventry game
Post by: RoversAlias on January 21, 2020, 07:18:53 pm
Hi folks,

My analysis of Saturday's loss to Coventry is now online. You can check it out at the link below:

A tough one this week but the defeat gave me plenty of things to analyse and look over to see where improvements can be made. Hopefully Darren Moore is able to address them both on the training field and, in my opinion, in the transfer market, although I've tried not to bleat on too much about that particular issue!

Please let me know your thoughts on the piece and thanks as ever for reading and supporting the site. I'm hoping to make an announcement on a new endeavour for ITEN in the next few days as well so stay tuned for that!

RA, as ever, a good read.
Your last paragraph is what most supporters will be thinking I reckon and it would be good to get those players in to keep interest bubbling to the end of the season.

There will no doubt be a big push to sell STs in the next few weeks and a falling away of our play off hopes won’t help to sell tickets.

Thanks RA, you make some very good points.

The most important point you make and a lot of people on here will miss it or misinterpret it at the very least, is that getting a better option it at CF will as you say increase the goal and assist returns from Sadlier and Taylor not replace it. It will also lighten the load and take some of the pressure off these players and allow them to relax a little on the ball. On Saturday we either forced things or ran out of ideas in that last third. I lost count the number of times we got into that danger area on Saturday and did not deliver a cross into the box or if we did it was a poor delivery.

The other things is that we need to be getting our better players on the ball in that last third, players who can cross, who can & will shoot and with better accuracy.

Do you think that was why Whiteman pushed forward in the 2nd half?

One thing of note, and you see it, time and again... When their scorer picks up the ball, i think it might be anderson was in front of him, and lets say there was a 5 yard gap.  When he shoots, hes to the right of the striker, and theres a 7 to 8 yard gap.  The defenders seem scared to put a challenge in, so run parrallel backwards towards a goal, and in this case, opens up some space. If big tom had gone in heavy, you concede a free kick yes, but it would be further away than when the ball was actually struck and with a wall in the way.  This is in way way a dig at tom, he's having a great season, more to do with how the defenders are coached on how to defend. Its deffo not an isolated incident.
