Title: Two things from last night...
Post by: GazLaz on January 29, 2020, 08:34:09 am
Did Ennis’ goal get deflected? It looked like it at the time but I’m unsure from the replays.

Also, unless there was an injury or fitness issue, leaving out Wright was lunacy and could have cost us with John trying his best to gift them an early goal.

He took a knock in training  and didn't want to risk  him.

I can accept that one tbh if he had a knock.I was disappointed that Gomes lost his place though.I thought he had a decent game against Sunderland and would have liked to have seen him get a run of games..It cant be easy coming in and out of the side and I don't think we've seen his true potential yet.

John was awful for the first 20 minutes but after that thought he grew into the game quite well and made a few really good covering tackles.

I don't see the big deal with him coming in at all really. We've got 7 games coming up in February, we're going to have to shuffle the pack at various points. Players will need resting every now and then. If Wright loses his place longer term then I won't be happy - he and Anderson have been exceptional recently - but no complaints from me with the decision in isolation.

Wouldn’t call it lunacy, John is a top player.

Anyone can make an odd error.

Come on he had a great game and saved a certain goal second half with a brilliant piece of defending.
Joe Wright either wasn’t 100% fit or the Sinnott death had affected him which someone mentioned.

RA posted that Wright and Sinnot were good friends and that the lads death may have been the reason why Wright was not in the right state of mind to play.

1st goal didn't look deflected from the other end, but hard to tell with a one-camera replay.

Didn’t look deflected real time, viewed from the SS..

Wright had a knock according to Moore in his post-match interview, and he also said that Gomes missed out due to the planned set-up rather than form.

The Ennis goal, don't think there was any deflection. Looked a good clean strike.

A third thing from last night........when the stadium announcer was telling us about Peter Doherty being included in the Hall of Fame, he kept calling him Peter Docherty, not Doherty.
Not too clever when talking about one of our former greats.

He's obviously not a Libertines fan then.😉
