Title: There's a time to live and a time to die..
Post by: Axholme Lion on February 08, 2020, 10:45:03 am
...nothing lasts forever and even the sun will cease to burn one day. So why worry about climate change when one day it will all be over in any case?

In a contest with lots of competition, that may just be the most ignorant and stupid thing anyone has ever posted on here.

The Sun is only estimated to be halfway through it’s life cycle, it’s got another 5 billion years to go before it engulfs Earth, thats a hell of a lot of generations to go before it all ends

Aye. The Universe is going to experience a heat death in about 100bn years so what's the point in looking left and right when you cross the road?

The Gurkhas believe in fate, when your time is up, your time is up and you can't do anything to change it. That's why some of their soldiers go in for mad acts of bravery.

I suppose this is the same approach to climate change and it gives us all licence to do whatever we like because ultimately, if it's not climate change something else will do for us anyway.

Anyway, I'm just off to book my holiday in Wuhan, hotel prices are crazily cheap there at the moment.

There's major cities that will be under water in the next 100 years at the current rate. Too much "I'm alright Jack" mentality.

It is no comfort to anyone who lives there but I guess the one small crumb of comfort we on this forum will have as regards the effect of climate change on the UK is that it will hit the lowest lying areas first. Which includes the Isle of Axholme.

Reports last week show that the Antarctic ice shelf is melting twice as quickly as predicted.

Had any estimate for jacking your house up on stilts yet AL? Or swapping your gas-guzzler for a boat?

Theres a reason why Isle of Axholme has that name and it’s notbecause it’s low lying

Google map of Roman Britain and you will see what will be underwater in the not too distant future.

Yes with Holme meaning "Island"  (think Lindholme = Island of Limes or Holme on Spalding Moor = Island on Spalding Moor) I have all my life thought what a strange name Isle of Axholme was

Isle of Axholme = Island of Ax Island (think the Ax is short for Haxey) so Island of Haxey Island. I think they covered every eventuality  ;)
