Just thinking about how difficult it is to grab the No 6 spot and then what, a log scale degree of difficulty to get to 5th and so on, 10 times harder for each position higher?
Just an open question to mull over

I believe most people over analyse things, all the team needs to do is keep picking up points every game, preferably 3, everything else is out of their hands. We need roughly 30 more points from our remaining games to get in the playoffs it’s up to the management team to target which remaining games they feel they can get them from, it’s up to us as fans to just get behind the team

I agree it’s all about getting 3 points in the next game but I think the play offs would be less..
30 more points would be more than enough - in my opinion of course..

Problem is, with that approach, you run the risk of making the balls up we did in 2013/14.
Dickov and the players were consistently saying that 50 points was the target. But any sensible look at the likely end of season points tallies showed that was ridiculous. It was odds on from weeks out that a team would survive on 44-45 points, meaning we only needed a couple of points in the last half a dozen games to have a very strong chance of survival.
Dickov went balls out for wins, picking a patently unfit Wellens against Bolton, and putting a still-struggling Wellens on for Furman when we were drawing with Reading and Furman was doing a decent job of bottling up the midfield.
Those decisions, trying to win matches we didn't have to win, probably cost us the point that sent us down.

That was down to more than just picking the wrong points target. Dickov was inept as a football manager.

I’m sure Darren and his team are taking one game at a time and not overly worrying about point targets. From his interviews you get the impression he just wants the players to play, learn and understand what they are doing wrong and how they can put it right.
My initial post was more not to worry about 6th then try to get to 5th and so on.

Win games win points.

On the plus side, taking into account the shortened season, we may just about be safe from relegation now!
-
As of today, if we win another 3 and Tranmere lose another 3 and Southend fail to win any game, we are mathematically safe.

Why go gung-ho? Why not play safe and draw another 9 instead!
