It probably will be false optimism - I posted these two links yesterday on a similar theme in the Coronavirus thread and both were shot down...

Perhaps it's time to diversify from the traditional PvO league of Rovers' predictions and making it a prediction league of national and global issues.

The issue is this.

There are several realistic drugs for treating this out there, but they have to go through this broad testing process before they are approved. Probably lots of noise from labs / bio firms saying they've found a promising drug but they all need to be tested. Promising drugs at early stages dont always work in humans, and can be counter productive in many cases.

There was one of these promising drugs (I think the one for ebola but don't quote on me on that) that had already gone through early trials (so doesn't need to again) but didn't prove succesful in later trials. They reckon they can modify it to fight this virus.

Loads of stories way back with the SARS virus about a vaccine being imminent. It came to nothing. Yes, techniques have improved meanwhile, but STILL no SARS vaccine, and that is way more deadly than this, albeit easier to isolate.

Can you imagine the risk to a pharmaceutical giant who rush released a drug to market that wasnt ready... if it started killing folk!!!!   Bankrupcy overnight!!!  The financial rewards do not outweigh the risks!!

Whatever rules apply, laxed or otherwise, they'll be protected. Compensation to vaccine damaged people comes from governments not the pharma corps.

As of May last year, £75m had been paid to 941 claimants since 1978. Claimants only able to claim if they are disabled in which case they currently get a one off payment of £120k.

The rewards do outweigh the risks for Pharma corps.

I stand corrected then, let the pharmaceutical firms fill their boots!
