Just finished reading his autobiography published in 2016.
What a great read and it gives a real insight into the person Joey Barton really is.
Yes he is i bit of a thug but he isn’t proud of a lot of the things he has done.
There is just a switch that goes off when he is riled and it would seem he has an incontrollable instinct to let fly.
Considering his very tough upbringing in a deprived area of Liverpool rampant with thugs and drugs it is not a surprise he can look after himself if you know what i mean.
He is actually extremely intelligent and very learned.
He could actually end up as a very successful Premier League Manager.
A statement which i wouldn’t have made before reading this and one that may receive a few smirks from most of you, to put it mildly.
I would highly recommend this book to all football fans

Whilst he may become a good manager he won't reach premier league level simply because he has that switch which can go off at any time.

He managed to control his instinct to let fly when Sarge grabbed him by the throat. I wonder if he controlled some other bodily instincts?

Agree with this, he’s got a complete lack of self-control. Doesn’t matter how much Nietzsche he quotes, he’s unlikely to have a top PL club take a risk on him because of the red mist baggage (and potential for further baggage) that he brings.

He simply won’t reach the heights of the premiership for the same reason he only got one England cap. He’s Joey Barton and people (media and others) don’t like him
You can tell he’s intelligent if you’ve listened to him in Talk sport
The one good thing about him is his honesty and straight talking

Phil, don't you think that the cynical and cheating antics of his team's might also be a factor in him not managing at a higher level. We're he a Premiership manager his team would be under the microscope with cameras at different angles showing the off the ball incidents. They would be crucified and rightly so. Would you want a son of yours to learn his trade in a youth team run by him?

But he still had ability as a player and I do think he’s got the potential to be a very good manager
He will probably drift out of management and into punditry at some point. I can’t imagine he’s in management for the money and I’d have thought that punditry would be a much easier job

I don’t think he is looking for the “easy job” he is always looking to challenge himself.
Agree though with the comments regarding to his public image his negative media image, getting a top job as a manager is going to be his biggest challenge.
A fascinating character though. Like marmite isn’t he. But agree I would’nt want him at Rovers.
Far too unpredictable and his spoiling tactics are very dubious based on what we saw at Fleetwood this season.

The one good thing about him is his honesty and straight talking
He got one England cap because he wasn't remotely international standard. His 11 minute international career is one of the most embarrassing things; I've ever seen on a football field. He galumphed around midfield try to hack down Iniesta and Xavi and never getting within 3 yards of them.

No. But he's the only one playing for a serious international team who looks like the back end of a pantomime horse while doing so.
Any residual appreciation I had for him evaporated in a match we had against QPR in the early 2010s.
He tussled with Wellens for the ball near the centre circle in their half. Wellens won and moved forward. Barton was still within striking distance of Wellens and could have made an effort to chase him down.
What he actually did was something I have never, ever seen a professional footballer do at any other time.
He gave up.
Threw his hands in the air, then stood still, posing his disgust at being out-thought and out-fought by a Tier 2 journeyman. Stood still. Posing. And let Wellens charge on towards the QPR defence. It was such a pose, such an unprofessional pose than it was seared onto my memory from the moment it happened.
That summed Barton up for me. Yes he had some talent. But he had no f**king heart. Not the sort of heart you need to succeed in the game. And when he was exposed, he responded with violence against people when he could get away with it. And petulance when he couldn't.
A weak, dysfunctional man who could have been a lot more. But was never going to be.

Green did the same as a youngster, players like Wellens and Doolan more gifted, but for some reason don't get the breaks with the right clubs.

Sometimes a players off field lifestyle hampers their career more than a lack of an opportunity at the right club.

Psychopathy is not a sectional disorder after you pass 25
Most of the Broadmoor residents will have other disorders mainly psychoses or EUPD (emotionally unstable personality disorder)
Psychopaths are generally quite successful due to their lack of empathy and unwillingness to admit their mistakes
