Signed on a perm with Hull! This creates a couple of questions- how much did they pay Barnsley? & yes we’re here again - is it a gamble with the court case pending
-
My gut feeling it is a measure to avoid relegation this season, as his loan ran out. Stay up and the gamble pays off.. Especially if his case isn’t heard before the season finishes..
Go down, does he have a relegation clause.?
As for the transfer fee, IMHO it is irrelevant..
-
Well he signed a 4 year deal at Oakwell so quite a substantial buy out
-
Is there some kind of a transfer window open because the Championship season is still on?

The deal was struck when he was loaned to Hull in January and they had the option to buy .
They've taken up that option .
Hard to say what the fee was and I can't honesty see it being the £1.2m we paid for him .
Taken a hit on that one by the looks of it .
I personally wouldn't have got shut of the lad , he's not done too well but he's a young lad after all and playing in a struggling team .
Struber definitely had a problem with him that's for sure for whatever reason .
Mowatt was hopeless when he first came here from Leeds and was loaned out to Oxford and came back the better for it and is now captain and sort after by other championship clubs .
Going to come back to bite this one in my opinion .

pretty obvious Wigan getting done for 12 points tipped the balance with others maybe getting -12 ???

Perhaps Hull are in the same boat and wanted to get this done so they didn't have to pay the full amount in the end..??

it seems i misread that 12 points lark so its not what i thought unusual for CLH to not check his facts :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Fingers crossed boro win tonight

I don’t think he’s championship standard. Some games he was unplayable. For me most of the time he relied on his bulk and slot of the time I thought his decision making was a bit questionable
-
He had a major problem with ‘attitude’, imho. While on loan with us, he was lazy a lot of the time. His warm - ups were nothing short of an insult to the coaches and the other players. He was devastating when he was in the mood, but too often played with his head down. He did improve as the season wore on, but all in all, there was still work to do with him and, it seems, Barnsley had problems with him.
Kane, on the other hand, was different gravy.
-
I've watched quite a few of the Hull games this season , and he has been average at best.

Aye to say the least , I remember early in the season he just needed to slide Woodrow in with a simple forward pass one on one with the keeper .
Instead he took the shot on from 25 yards and it flew a mile over the bar .
Woodrow was going absolutely mental with him , thought he was going to chin him .
Wilks just walked away , never looked bothered about it .
-
Don’t care he was lazy
-
Look a like he's popped up with the winner

Like a dagger through the heart , jeez that's a blow for us .
-
Ex-Rovers sucker punch there and sucks Boro right back into it. Shows how close it is that Hull are now up to 19th.
-
Money well spent lol
-
Kane and Wilkes save Hull
-
They looked lost when Herbie went off
-
Don’t care he was lazy
I beg to differ..
-
Don’t care he was lazy
So was Alan Clarke, Dennis Law and Jimmy Greaves but they scored goals.
Wilks was a good player for us on his day, bit of a one trick pony but he was young and still is.
If he want’s to improve then he can become a very good player.
Don’t understand all the criticism he gets personally, especially now he isn’t with us.
That was a shock result tonight and puts Boro right back in the mix.
It’s take your pick for bottom 3 Its getting more interesting by the day.
-
But does he mean that he doesn't care that he was lazy?

That’s what I thought.
It isn’t clear from the way he wrote his post.
-
I loved watching Malik for us last season. Worth the admission fee at times!
-
Especially that Rochdale game.
-
I don't think Wilks was lazy. Laid back, sure, and he had his days where he just wasn't in the game (like anyone) but his contribution to that season was immense for us, he scored 16 goals (which is four more than our top scorer this season managed) and tore defences apart on his own at times.
-
Wilks and Marquis.
Oh to get a front two like those lads again.

Yes agree his persona was laid back giving the impression of laziness. But in most matches, not all he worked very hard for the team. He would not have got picked to play if he was idle. It’s a different era now to the 60’s & 70’s when teams had penalty box goal poachers.
In today’s game all outfield players have to work their socks off.
-
There was a couple of minutes at the end that summed him up, brilliant turn to lose the defender then hit a shot that just about went for a throw. Looked like he could hardly walk and then got on the end of that ball to score.
Definitely an enigma one that I wish we still had
-
I just think players like that sometimes take up too much time of the manager, trying to encourage, cajole and coach. Bit of an attention seeker, sometimes can't do the simple things, sometimes getting too involved with other players and refs, sometimes anonymous but sometimes brilliant. Consistency is not really a word you would you would apply to Malik.
It would have been interesting to see whether DM would have got the best out of him more consistently.
-
Enigma sums him up perfectly - remember at Bradford last season - scored a beautiful goal with a good clean strike from 20-25 yards out after contributing very little in the game previously - he used to make the difficult things look easy & the straightforward things look difficult
-
Cotterill was the same.
These guys are game winners.
-
Harry forester was the same

Now he was a wasted talent. Could have been whatever he wanted to be as a footballer.
If it’s not right up top then the feet are irrelevant. Attitude.
With Malik Wilkes it is still in his court ( no pun intended ) But his on going situation can’t have helped his development.
I think he has every chance of becoming a very good player. Pity he isn’t under DM’s wing as he is just the sort of influence that he would probably thrive under.
