Ben Sheaf has joined Coventry........... so we can put any thoughts of a return to bed now.

A loan deal with a view to permanent.

So for all the Ben Sheaf critics last season. That move to the Championship just shows how wrong some are at assessing the ability of players.
Good luck to him. Wish he was coming back to us. Still we move on. Plenty of fish in the sea.

Bit more...

A player with plenty of possibilities but he'll need to improve his ball retention to survive in the Championship.
No sour grapes, he did give the ball away needlessly an awful lot here.
-
The reason for the loan will have been his wages that’s why a permanent now couldn’t be agreed.

His passing accuracy was the same as Whitemans last season. It was just the areas of the pitch he gave it away in that mad the errors more noticeable.

Thought we had first refusal with loans to buy
-
Doesn't mean it's gonna happen tho! Just means we get first chance to talk to the player. Lots to do after that.

Lets see how Coventry are at assessing a players ability to play in the championship first. I am probably in a minority but personally am not convinced he is as good as some on here seem to think.

Perhaps we had, and refused first

I'm with you. Plenty of potential, but not a player I'd have crawled over broken glass to sign. I thought he looked a little lost in some of the poorer team displays at the back end of the season, like Shrewsbury and Gillingham.

Thought we had first refusal with loans to buy
We'd still have to be happy to spend £700K on the player.

I would be quite happy to replace him with a try before you buy player like Lokilo and John and of course Whiteman!!
-
And Richards, by the look of him!
-
As said in another thread, I do rate Sheaf and have done from the start but Richards could be just as effective if not better.
I would have thought those considerations will have been in DM's mind but who can blame Sheaf for stepping up to the Championship!?
-
There were plenty of critics of Sheaf (in West Stand and on here), personally I thought he was good a little inconsistent but generally a good player

Richards seems more like a replacement for Ramsey to me, not Sheaf. We are short in thst area of the field and need someone to come in who can fill that role as Sheaf did a great job last season.

Or we did'nt want to match the wages offered by a championship club to land him?
-
Or perhaps DM thought there were better players out there. Or perhaps .... or perhaps!
Why does it always come back to money
-
Great player and good luck to the lad. Will only get better as a midfielder having spent most of his youth as a centre back. Works both ways the loan market and we’ve helped this lad go up to the next level. Great work
-
I would suggest Arsenal may want more of his wages paid by the loaning club that’s why we may have not been involved or DM may be able to get a similar player on loan for less outgoings
-

Or even that the player wanted to see if he could get better (by which I mean a Championship club, not mone).
-
Not overly bothered about him, when he was good he was good, when he was bad he was awful, had that knack of passing to the opposition on a frequent basis, good luck to the lad like, but my opinion is he will struggle in that league.
