What is the most relaxing, gentle easy going TV for lockdown?
I have three suggestions
Gone Fishing with Paul and Bob. Two old mates who chat about growing old, open heart surgery, still being alive, men's health issues and making silly jokes. Nice photography too, oh and they do some fishing.
The Repair Shop. Who knew watching a man putting a new spring in a freshly cleaned clockwork mechanism could be so enthralling? It's pure lovelyness.
And my own personal favourite
The Joy of Painting in the 1970s with Bob Ross. Was Bob the worlds most gentle ever man? He looked after baby squirrels, he taught people to paint imaginary landscapes, he's a white man with an Afro. "Let's put a happy little cloud here, "there are no mistakes only happy accidents, "it's your world you can do what ever you like. If you haven't seen this yet, it's on weekday nights on BBC4.

Definitely recommend Staged. It's worth it just for Samuel L Jackson shouting out "Who the f**k is Michael Sheen?"

Gone fishing with Paul & Bob is a joy to behold. It's like a virtual breath of fresh air. Tranquillity in a world of turbulence.

Agreed about Paul & Bob. Lovely stuff.
-
Sponge Bob Squarepants.

They've been rerunning Play For Today. I can't help but think, why can't they do this sort of thing anymore? Abigail's Party, was on the other night, absolutely brilliant.
Hopefully they will dig out Nuts in May soon. A genuine all time British comedy classic.

You are spot on with your three picks RD. All great programmes.
I've had a go using Bob's painting advice with not too shabby results.
-
What about re-runs of “How” with Fred Dinnage, Jack Hargreaves etc, educational but interesting
-
Season one of Gone fishing has an episode based in Heacham, the place they stayed in is now up for sale railway carriage and all.
Staged is brilliantly funny, I loved Judy Dench's cameo too.

I love Gone fishing, very funny and often moving.

I'm tempted to give it a go, i've never tried painting in oils. The only thing with his wet on wet technique is you can't do an under dawing. That's fine if you're inventing an imaginary landscape but more awkward if you want to try and create an actual view. But i like how quickly you can get everything down on canvas. It's more of an impressionist style.

Far too much crying in The Repair Shop for me - Grandad's telescope has been stuck in the loft for 30 years without a passing thought and now suddenly you're getting all emotional about it?
Salvage Hunters on Quest is my guilty pleasure.

I tried impressionist art a few years back but the one I did of Mike Yarwood looked nowt like him. My Rory Bremner attempt had a bit more likeness.

The new All Creatures Great and Small is very light. Takes a few liberties with the books but very watchable

It's very good. Acting legend Timothy West's son, Samuel West, is a chip off the old block as Mr Farnham senior.
-
Agreed, but Mrs Hall is far too young
-
We have three series on the go
War of the worlds ............. so so.
Witch Hunt, a scandi legal/financial drama .......... not too bad.
Savages, a French political drama ................... a couple of episodes in and looking ok.
-
Just started another 4 parter doc.
African Americans, Many Rivers to Cross with Henry Gates jr, excellent.
-
Detectorists is the best comedy/drama on the box for years.

Great show! Gets my vote
