Title: Balcombe
Post by: Prez on January 26, 2021, 11:59:47 pm
Admittedly he didnt have alot to do tonight, but for me hes the best out of the 3 keepers we have had this season. Easily commands his area better, good shot stopper and his distribution is good also.

Special mention for that punch clearance in the last few minutes, was quality. No messing. Ave it!

You can see why Brentford rate him highly.

I agree, so far he looks the best of the three and has some really good traits. That kick out of his hands in the first half that he sent 70 yards into the right channel of the opposition penalty area, which Okenabirhie got on the end of, was nothing short of sublime.

Very impressive!

Noted that he is now confident enough to come out of his box to play the ball like and outfield defender.

I sit much more comfortably  watching  corners into our box now he is between the sticks .Takes me back to the feeling I got watching Sullivan .

I liked the look of him straight away. He will be in the Premier League in a few years with or without Brentford.

He’s a good keeper, distribution is his biggest weakness but that’s something that he can work on.

He’s better than the other two we’ve had this season by some distance I think.

He has some of the qualities Seny had and you can tell he could have an impact in the championship, hopefully it is with us on another loan next season

Why do you guy’s keep dismissing Jones. From what I have seen he has done very little wrong yet seems to always be ignored in favour of loan keepers. Give him more opportunities and he would certainly get even better.

Signed a new one Dave just before coming on loan to us

His distribution is great IMO.
He pings the ball out 50 yards to players feet with great confidence.
That punch out late on showed he doesn’t mess about either.

You can tell why Brentford gave him a new long term contract looks like he could go on to play at the highest level.

If he keeps punching crosses like that then the opposition strikers are just going to let him have it. Try and win a header and go to hospital with no face left or let the keeper have it - not a big decision is it.

When he comes for it he comes for it. Whether catching or punching. Very decisive in all he does.
Got all the attributes to be a top keeper.
That punch late on was brilliant. He took out everything in front of him to make sure he made good contact with the ball.

What about the nonchalant catch of the ball from a shot 2nd half, most keepers would have tipped it over the bar

The penalty was rash and he shouldn't have been out there to make the challenge although I thought he got the ball I may be wrong. However he's got a real presence about him and his little antics before both pens gave him the phycological edge. Easily Mom behind Wright

He is going to be a future premiership keeper, reminds me of when we had a young Sam Johnstone on loan.

Nitpicking I know mate but if they had got a 1-1 it would have been two points given away.

We have a stunning goal keeper without doubt. It takes a lot of courage to stop 2 pens in one game. It's easy for keyboard warriors to just sit at home and say it is easy.

He may have caused the pen himself, but he also saved it. It's easy commenting when your a not on the pitch yourself.

You can tell why Brentford gave him a new long term contract looks like he could go on to play at the highest level.

He already trains with the full England side at St Georges Park, so I think his career is already mapped out. He just needs game time.

He also made two brilliant clean gathers at the near Post through anticipating where the ball was going. Pure class.

Dubious first penno as the ball had already gone and player threw himself over. Second one, he gave an excuse for the ref to give it. Reminded me of Marosi at Rotherham a couple of years back!

What a keeper though. Lawlor, Bursik, watch and learn.

Totally agree with you about the Marosi incident at Rotherham, Baz. Absolute De Ja Vu today. When Ellery ran out, you just knew he was going to clatter their player. Right at the end as well, just as it was at Millmoor.

Happier ending today though. What a keeper.

Just seen his interview. Obviously chuffed  about his performance and to learn from his mistake.

Interesting though, it's the first time we've heard a player say “We know what we want". Normally it's the usual clichés, One game at a time etc etc., but this is the first indication the players are really focused and determined to achieving something.

Watching the foul for the second pen. Is it in the box? Watched it back a few times and it seems to me to be harsh. Not that it matters of course, now.

Just watched the highlights, for me it’s inside the box. The momentum takes them both out of it but within the line when he first makes contact.

Something I thought at the time but quickly forgot in the aftermath - what on earth was Fej doing before the penalty? Has an opportunity to clear, an opportunity to knock it back to Smith (I think) to clear, could always hammer it into touch and instead he dithered and passed it straight back into the danger area. Very poor.

Watched it again this morning and the contact was outside the box. Referee’s error, but he was queuing up to give them something.

We had 3 players with yellow cards and they had one. But, how many times was Richards fouled after having beaten his man?

As everyone’s said, it doesn’t matter now, but we could so easily have been robbed of 2 points! ;)

To be fair I think Fej was absolutely done in by this stage , he was just chasing shadows for most of the game through no fault of his own.

Some of us have rose tinted specs. It was border line but can understand why the ref gave it. He doesn’t have the benefit of VAR.

As for the yellow cards. How was that even a foul by Anderson yet alone a yellow card
Bridcott fouled TJ 3 times in the 1st half, proper fouls and he never got booked.

The inconsistencies of refs drives me potty. Most of them don’t seem to understand what the difference is between a fair tackle and a proper foul.  :headbang:
