Great result and great 3 points but you can’t carry on playing like that it’s ridiculous, we got battered for 75 mins and although we won, it was wtf is going off here??? Went for a point got 3 so can’t complain but best form of defence is attack, we have the weapons to smash teams so why not do it.
-
WUM of week award goes to ....….....
-
Jesus wept, we beat top of the league and saved two penalties and we've still got people moaning about something.
I'm sure you exist just to f**king whine constantly on here.
-
I wouldn’t have thought that we went there to play the way we did.
Lincoln were very very good and they forced us back.
However we defended exceptionally well and they couldn’t break us down.
Anyway, we won, enjoy that.

'Went for a point got 3 so can’t complain' - Stop complaining then!
-
The other side of the coin is though Lincoln battered us but lost.
Today was one of those days, both for us and Lincoln.
I doubt that we will see us under the cosh like that again this season.
-
I see Mr “I’m fun at parties” is at it again.
-
How many teams have scored more than us this season?
-
I’m not saying we played bad, but bringing teams to play up like that isn’t great, if we’d attacked them there plans go to pot, good tactics I suppose because our defence is solid but a level of attack would be better
-
Not rising to the op , bu there's not a team in the division with the players to smash Lincoln at home , they are up there for a reason and play good football , 6 pts all the richer
-

Got 3 points so can’t complain. The nature of your thread is a complaint you idiot! We won’t play wel every game, if we’re going to achieve something special this season, we will need a number of other games played out exactly like this, sit back hold on for the ride and enjoy it as we go along. Was t pretty but effective!

What is wrong with you? I mean has the doctor given it a name or is it just that you’re a complete and utter(insert word here)?
-
They were the top team playing at home so why think it would be any easier?

Because gung ho attacking always works doesnt it? Tell that to Rochdale who've scored more goals this season than us and are 4 points above the drop zone. I'd take winning the league with a bunch of 1-0 wins than mid table and a bunch of 3-3 draws
-

Erm we are top scorers in the division goals per game. Id say our attacking side of our game is just doing just fine thanks.
-
Not even worth responding to this thread,
Embarrassing

Michael, Michael, Michael. It wasn't negative. It was strong, defensive play away from home against a team that if you left gaps at the back would likely rip you apart. Lincoln are a class above every other team we've played this season, and by taking these points off them this season, we've shows we're a bit above them.
Rejoice my friend, just once, rejoice. It's not bad news when your mouth stretches, it's called a "smile".
-
They were very very good and the way they played forced us play the way we did. A great result and just the type of win you need when going got promotion. Reminded me a bit of the result away at Tranmere in 2013.

Too negative
Yes, Michael, you are. Very much so.
Good for Covid results Not a good look on you.

We have beat Lincoln twice this season no it wasn’t a performance but we’ve won. I take a win anytime

When will we stop pretending we know better than Darren Moore . A win was what we got because we defended well and stopped 2 penalties which IS defending also . The only person complaining about the win apart from YOU will be Phil Parkinson . Oops I meant to Michael Aspel .....no Appleton!!
-
To the OP..... The opposition were THAT good. They actually were. Their club as a whole should feel very disappointed. The best we have played by some distance in both games. We couldnt get to grips with them throughout and weve pinched it. Now I am not saying we are going to do this that and the other but these are promotion winning results. So enjoy it.

My god...are you serious??? they are the best team in the league... we in most part were outplayed. We battled well as a team, got a bit of luck and won the game... that happens to champions..... on to the next one
-
Backs to the wall - we will not surrender.
3 points.
Goodnight.

Does your nappy need changing?
-
How can anyone be upset really they had the ball more than us today granted bit we held out and I do not think we will play a better team for the rest of this season the fact we came out on top is reason for celebration and optimism not the opposite..
-
You need to grind results out like this to get promoted and can’t play expansive all the time , give Moore credit we kept a clean sheet had a slice of luck and got 3 points - like my mate said at work last night could be a Mansfield away moment and hopefully so
-
I’ve seen us play like Lincoln have all the possession and lose 1-0 so many times but I’ve never seen us do the same until this season it’ll do for me
-
Wouldn’t surprise me at all if we set
Up to play like that and just hit them on the break and it worked, sum of our passing was poor again at times but we defended well as a unit even if we gave them maybe too much space out wide, but maybe that’s what moore wanted to do and just pack the middle out which apart from a few great blocks and 2 pens we wasn’t really troubled
-
We let them have the ball and restricted them to long range pot shots mostly. It was clearly the game plan and it mostly worked. Some defensive slips for the penalties and they had a couple of big chances but they're top of the league, so of course they were going to create something. We largely managed the game well I thought.
But dear me, imagine seeing a win like that and coming on here moaning. You won't see another game like that this decade, if you can't enjoy that then football isn't the sport for you!
-
Didn't arsenal win championships on the back of hard-fought 1 nil away wins?
-
If we had done that against West Ham I bet the OP would have had a different view.
-
Let's just steady on a bit, lads and lasses.
Maybe his thread title's real purpose was to describe him and his post. Only explanation.

After we took the lead I think we played exactly as the plan would have been.
Get bodies behind the ball and frustrate them. We did exactly that.
We were never going to go all out attack and play into their hands were we.
Just play on the break when the opportunity arose.
-

I agree. With the extra spice of "hey, let's make it exciting by giving them not one, but two penalties, then block them out too".
-
Very very negative if you were expecting us to dominate the team sat at the top of the league, however we played a subduing game which never looks good but works....
Look at it this way Michael.....we managed to keep out the top team for a good 75-80 minutes of sustained pressure, it doesn’t matter that we didn’t compete in an attacking manner, we didn’t have to, they did and they failed miserably ....take heart from the fact that we can score goals, and we’ve shown that we can defend mentally....
I think the team will be better for this type of game, and the goalie will be ten foot tall from now to the season end....
These are the shitty games that become real turning points in a teams fortunes, because the players will have learnt so much....
Ya right....too negative....but a real learning curve

I think that DM has a game plan for each individual game which includes a sub plan in case we go ahead (like today) or go behind (which hasn’t happened much of late). The Opening Poster intimates that you should play the same way each game irrespective of who is the opposition, but that will probably lead to as many defeats as wins and won’t achieve promotion.
The opposition will always have a lot to do with the plan and a great example of this has to be the Rochdale game last week where we played a ‘measured’ game and for the first time in ages they didn’t score. We could have played a more attacking game and perhaps drawn 3-3 or 4-4.
Today we rode our luck and we could easily have been on the wrong end of the scoreline, but credit to DM, his initial game planning and ‘in-game’ planning seem to be working.
-
I think I have read or heard a stat that says we have every league game this season in which we have scored first.
-
Welcome back Michael I bet it’s killing you not having defeats to jump all over
Enjoy the moment
-
Only downside I would say aswell as we defended as a unit is big if I know but IF Lincoln had scored both their pens how many would be on here moaning saying that was absolute rubbish and we got murdered. But we didn’t lol
-
My goodness how successful has this attention seeker been post after post to his nonsense. Let him post and just ignore him

It’s all about the result. Yes as an attacking force we saw much less than usual but that doesn’t make it a poor performance.
I thought we were magnificent at closing down the space and denying Lincoln clear cut chances to score.
The work rate in the 2nd half from the whole team was fantastic and is a credit to the fitness levels of the team
2 or 3 people said Halliday looked tired. Well if that was a tired performance he would be Superman if he wasn’t tired. His work rate was phenomenal imo.

In response to the OP the only thing too negative is the person with initials MG.

To all the idiots slagging me off, I’m just stating playing like that is a risk and yes today it paid off, but if your willing to play loosing 72 per cent possession thats not good, it’s shit to watch and teams like Lincoln would be up against it with a few attacks there nothing special
-

You still here?
-
Do you honestly think the team went out to give Lincoln 70%+ of the possession.? Really.?
That was just how it happened.. Lincoln are a good side and were top for a reason.
By the way, in case you hadn’t noticed, we’ve won 8 out of the last 9 league matches. Is that not good enough for you.? If we don’t win 5 or 6 nowt every week it’s shit.?
If you fell into a barrel of tits you would emerge sucking your thumb.!

The one game we have lost out of 9 is the home game against Shrewsbury where they played much the same way as we played today..... and it worked for them and it worked for us today.
-
To win football games you need to best the opposition in both attacks and defending.
We did that today. That doesn't mean you have to attack more than them, you just have to have more success than them. Same for defending.
Nothing to moan about.
And anyone who thought today was "shit" does not know football in the slightest. I was gripped. It was pure theatre and the last 15 minutes was proper edge of seat stuff.
-
Is this a joke post ? Clearly a piss take - we’ve gone there with a solid back line & 2 holding midfielders and pulled off a great result with 2 tremendous penalty saves & this clown is moaning about setting up for a point ! Call the men in the white coats
-

Embarrassing yourself

I thought that was a brilliant team performance today & DM got it spot on, only criticism was we gave the ball away cheaply & our passing wasn't our usual standard, but boy did we dig in to a man. I disagree with the OP, but I respect his views even though I disagree with them. But at least I wouldn't throw insults at him for it, it's wrong & uncalled for in my opinion. Great result & top team performance, well done to the players & management.

You are speaking through a time vortex and have just watched us get pumped in the experiment season. It's the only thing that makes sense.

I think that Mr Gibson, if that’s his name is a football fan, but I very much doubt he’s a Doncaster Rovers fan . No doubt he’ll come back on here and start quoting dates and results that he’s just googled.

Ah yes the classic "made myself look a prick so I'll pretend I was kidding on" jape.

I think it's brilliant. For the first time in a long time, we are competent at winning games in a variety of ways - play poorer teams off the park with quick, tika taka passing, or grind out result in a battling, defensive, counter attacking performance.
It's f***ing great!

any one starting to see similarities between now and then? Man mountains at the back, captain Tom and butts/the corporal and mccombe, and a genius to magic something out of nothing.. Cotterill and young Taylor? Remind me how that season ended up?

Some definite similarities, the main one if you listen to the players appears to be a real togetherness in seeking to fulfill an ambition - the 12/13 team were headstrong in their belief they could get promoted and this group appear to be the same.
On the field though, we have far more technical ability than we had that season. Times have moved on of course so other sides are the same but I think if you used a time machine to put today's team against that one, this one would win handily.
-
Imagine corners and free kicks with Rob Jones and Jamie McCombe v Andy Butler and Tom Anderson?

Well I'm sure at no point in a pre match tactical briefing will DM say "right lads, limit yourselves to 28% possession today" so your point is kind of moot anyway. Sometimes its about adapting to, actually you know what, never mind.

I enjoyed watching us that season. It gets a bit of unfair flak imo. No, the football wasn't great but there was a real sense of togetherness, bouncing back after the experiment disaster, and you just knew walking into away ends that we were coming away with the points most weeks. That team was chocolate, this one is vanilla - both good, just different.
-
I remember going to.crewe away and going mental when Billy scored that winner.. The attractiveness of the footy wasn't really in question?
-
And at Stevenage.. but wasn’t Flynn in charge by then.?

Well I enjoyed the season immensely. Winning football. Fantastic away performances. I don’t remember any hoof ball football. Yes it wasn’t as pretty as SOD’s way of playing agreed.
It was a proper team with a fantastic team spirit. A winning mentality.
I never understand the criticism that team gets. We were Champions at the end of the season if my memory serves me correctly. What was there not to like?
-
I do remember us putting in some pretty poor performances at home. Our home form was relatively poor that year. If you didn't get to a lot of away games I can see why you'd dislike it. I was lucky enough to go to a fair few away games that year and it was always fantastic. Probably the best season for away days I can remember.
We also had some real quality in that side as well. Cotterill, Copps, Spurr, Lundstram - it wasn't all grafting mesters.
-
I went to quite a few that season and Stevenage was my favourite one, closely followed by Bournemouth. The least favourite without a doubt MK Dons. We were absolutely clueless.
I let someone else have the chance of my Brentford ticket even though I was a STH as I had been there previously.
I then had the torture of listening at home. The agony of giving the penalty away and then trying to work out just what had happened in the following minute. Despair to exultation in no time but not good for the heart.
