Does anyone have any good advice - my wife might in an unusual situation where she might have a choice. She is on the vulnerable list and can expect an Astra-Zeneca jab at the GP within the next two weeks. However she has been taken into hospital for a few days where they happen to give Pfizer jabs. She might be asked if she wants one. Anyone with enough knowledge to give any advice?

The FT version of vaccine summary includes an explanation of type;

so you can see AZ is an adenovirus, whereas Pfizer is mRNA.
AZ is unlikely to be constrained by supply, as it can be UK sourced.
Only your Dr can advise of the best option for a particular patient, depending upon clinical assessment.

The Germans don't think the AZ vac is sufficiently good for over 65s.
I think if I was given the choice I'd go for Pfizer. It gives better protection with just the first jab.

And then the Germans denied it.....https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/astrazeneca-covid-vaccine-elderly-oxford-b1792658.html

Many thanks RD. That was my first thought. It may become just a hypothetical question, but just in case it arises I think it good to have an answer.

I thought the Germans were concerned that the AZ data did not include sufficient info on the effects with the over 65's.
That does not mean it is unsuitable....it means that they wish to have further information.
