Whether it be a musician, sportsman, actor, in fact, anyone in the public eye, past or present, who deserve more credit for their talent?
I'll start seeing as it's my idea.
Prince was a superb guitarist, and up there with the best.....

Billy Joel. Not always a critics favourite, but his piano playing is (still) incredible.I’ve seen him many times in the UK and was lucky enough to see him at MSG in 2019.

Colin 'Fingers' Henry, he could play the piano standing on his head.

Nicky Limber's dad too

Wasn’t he one of the ‘Badd Lads’ from The Beezer?
-
I thought 'Colin Fingers Henry' was a 70's gay porn film.

Half Man, Half Biscuit.
Often get bracketed as just doing comic songs but actually they do some very good songs and his lyrics remain is wry and cutting as ever. I think they should be have the status of national treasure by now.

I listened to a concert of his on the radio. His live performance was just as good as his records. Very impressive.

Colin was brilliant.
One of my ex golfing mates was his best friend so I got to know him really well.
I went to a few functions over the years where he was the main entertainment and he always put on a good show.

I thought this was some sort of scandal involving a lesser known coach at Arsenal and their star striker

Can't see how Prince didn't get credit.
He was a global superstar.

Tom Morello doesn't get the credit he deserves either to be fair.

Add Jim Bob into that bracket too.

Not sure what the criteria for this is as Prince is one of the most famous musicians on the planet and Billy Joel filled Wembley Stadium on his last tour here a couple of years ago so:
John McLaughlin, from Kirk Sandell, probably the best guitarist you have never heard of

Paul Heaton
Has been a prolific and good songwriter for many years but doesn't shout too much about it. Not only that, he does a lot of work for charidee but not your Coldplay/U2 sort of charidee. He gives to redundant workers in the UK, does benefit gigs for ex miners. If you're ever likely to bump into a pop star helping out at a food bank, it'll be Paul Heaton.

He's a terrific bloke, RD. and no mean musician either.

The best thing about that video is everyone else didn't want him there and he knew it. He didn't turn up to the rehearsal just walked out on stage blew them away. When he'd finished he threw his guitar in the air and left the building. Dave Grohl's story about jamming with him is good too.

Been thinking about this one (good OP BB)
I have two talented candidates for the music domain, both deserving of huge credit but nearly unknown:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackson_C._Frank
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_Drake
Both with tragic lives but the length of list and quality of musicians who quote them as an influence is amazing.
In the science/biology domain I always think Alfred Wallace never received the credit he deserved for similar (and sometimes joint) work to Darwin
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred_Russel_Wallace
Finally I think I have mentioned him on here before but a classic case of not having the credit deserved was explorer John Rae. He discovered what happened to Franklin's expedition, but unfortunately discovered and reported evidence of cannibalism by the crew. Unfortunately that enraged the powerful Lady Franklin who saw that Rae was discredited. Much more recently he is being credited for his efforts.

Prince was a great Guitarist, and performer, his HT Superbowl gig was fantastic, the monsoon at the time added to the performance
