Report in the telegraph this morning talking about chansiri asking the players to go onto furlough.
Wonder what's coming out of Hillsborough next?

It just gets worse:

-
Darren Moores move is looking better and better.
-
Question maybe for SM, have we asked any of the players or coaching staff to be furloughed over the summer?
-
On what planet does Darren Moore live that he thought it was a good move .
In hindsight, I'm sooo glad he did though .
Richie wellens is head and shoulders the better manager
-
Oh dear !. They have always thought they were better than what they actually were. Champagne at the ready !.
-
I know little about the Wednesday squad, (Why should I ? is the obvious answer!!)
Is there anybody in their squad any good?
-
That Urhoghide is a good player, out of contract too but probably has championship moves lined up.
-
Time they called it a day.
-
All this just re confirms how fortunate we are as fans to have a soberly owned, managed, well run and stable club.
-
I think that we should have a Bucket collection for them this afternoon, any volunteers.
-
I've got a couple of old buckets in the garage. Where shall I drop them off?
-
They can have the bucket from the thunder box at the bottom of our garden, its time we got a new one anyway.
-
My god what was DM thinking lol. How the hell is He going to attract any players to that club.
-

Barry Bannon although I bet they are hoping they can get a few quid for him
-
I was about to say Jordan Rhodes, but it looks like he's ran his contract down and toddled off back to Huddersfield.
-

I hope since69 and Master Gibson are reading this
-
If they are still in administration without the certainty of fulfilling their fixtures I wonder how they will be treated.
Will they be let off the hook like Leeds, Leicester City, and Bolton last season, or be chucked out like Hereford and Chester City.
-
All the money they have spent and the silly wages and still they are in the same league as us.
It just shows the people asking us to spend spend spend how silly it really is
-
Oh well, how sad, never mind! Enjoy your furlough Darren!

That's absolute brilliant wit, BB.

Dead right, mate. Richie's already won a league title and a cup at Wembley.
What the f*ck has DM ever won?

You would think that Reece would be able to see what is going on.
Wednesday are in a big mess.
Why would anyone want to sign for them.

We have quality owners with sadly only L1 ambition and that’s as much as they’ve been able to prove to me . SWFC are victims decades of poor decisions and selling to the wrong the persons . DRFC threw in the Championship towel when John Ryan walked away . We are not Doncaster Rovers fc .. we Club Doncaster which is a leisure club made of a football team a rugby team and Ladies team with a car boot thrown in . RTiD

Really? Given the boards we had in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s you feel the need to vent at a board that brought second tier football to Doncaster Rovers before you started allegedly supporting and have seen us through a global pandemic still in one piece. You’re either a complete wum( which I expect) or have memory loss and need medical attention

Maybe if it was based in actual reality and not a fictional one you've created.
-
I read an article not long back about Chansiri. He doesn't seem like a bad guy but wildly incompetent. His 10 year old son was advising him on players and managers. Third straight month the players there haven't been paid on time, any player signing for them wants their head checking.
-
Brilliant that last one about the 10 yr old. He’ll be getting his info from FIFA21.
-
Can they actually sign anyone anyway, I thought they had a transfer embargo
1969 yes you’re entitled to your opinion totally respect that but do you have to keep bleating on at every opportunity, it’s like having Jehovah’s Witnesses at the door every time you open the curtains
-
The thing that a lot of people struggle with on here is that you're allowed an opinion and everyone else is allowed to express their opinion on your opinion!

Free’s and loans so Darren should be in his element

It can get tedious though when certain posters have to have a dig at certain players or the board nearly every time that they post.

I personally want to see us beat them on the field, not go into administration.
-
I personally want to see us beat them on the field, not go into administration.
Have to agree.
While I am very happy to see Darren Moore live to regret his decision and to see local rivals slide down the leagues there’s no pleasure in seeing one of the oldest football clubs in the country go to the wall.
If they fail on the pitch and end up spending their days battling it out in the Conference so be it but I just get angry when another club ends up in danger because another nutcase has been allowed loose in the asylum.
-
For clubs that are run well, there's the examples of clubs that are run poorly and we couldn't get much closer to home for a prime example of owners who are clueless and thrown money they couldn't afford down the pan, paying unsustainable excessive wages for average players, making poor managerial choices, being at constant loggerheads with fans over ticket prices etc.
I would not be surprised if the other half of the city follow suit, albeit they did achieve their day in the sun.

Too right, if they went bust it would be too easy on Darren Moore.
I want them suffering in league 1/2 until Moore gets sacked .
Then I couldn't care less about them,
-
They bang on about being ‘massive’ but now not even the biggest club in League One - behind Sunderland in terms of infrastructure/fan base etc - Sunderland are a one city club whereas Sheffield is evenly split between two teams
-
I'm sure Ipswich may have something to say about being bigger than Wednesdays too .
-
I'm sure Ipswich may have something to say about being bigger than Wednesdays too .
Plus Bolton and Portsmouth given their histories
-
The so called big clubs in division 1 should be put in their own table of who has spent the most money stupidly, then you will have the true winner.
They could be awarded The Massive Idiots Cup in recognition of their success, even have an open bus parade around the town, it would only cost money after all, but at least it would give people a chance to laugh at them for being so stupid.

Sheffield is though a much bigger city than Sunderland. So they must be massive!!!
Does not matter how big a club you think you are it is where you are in the pyramid that counts.
The fact is Sunderland , Wednesday, Ipswich, Portsmouth and Charlton are all League 1 clubs. So not so massive. They will be on the same level as either Morecambe or Newport next season.

Quite funny too that it is on a thread about the piggies.

Well, they owe us money from taking our manager and his assistant, so if they don't cough up we could be the ones that put them in the S**T.

-

Same. I know "extra wages blah blah blah" but relegation was always on the cards and the behind the scenes shitshow magnified the potential for disaster if they went down. It's a massive leap but I always wonder about managers that take that kind of job. Do they think they can do a Lazarus or are they after a payout with no blame due to the ownership.
-

I don't know but I'm glad he did.

Going on sky sports etc has gone to his head . Lots of people think they have abilities they don't possess . ( The phrase give em enough rope & they will hang themselves comes to mind)
my lasting memory of him on the pitch was when Micheal Owen put the ball through his legs and scored
on the strength of that the idiotic press called for Owen to be brought back to the England side. F.F.S. C.L.H.. THOUGHT AT THE TIME
When you think you hear something totally stupid you just dont forget KEPT THIS UNDER WRAPPS WHEN HE WAS HERE
the goal is 2 minutes 50 seconds into this link
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yU6Kt1q-ec
some of you might wonder what my avatar was all about
-
Anyone else? me neither...
-
Not a clue, but I rather enjoyed seeing Michael Owen making a mug of Moore in that highlight video. So cheers CLH!
-
I wonder if they're struggling to pay their players because of the outlay they spent to get Moore. It seems odd to hire an in-work manager when you already have serious cash flow issues and are just barely able to pay the players as it is. If you read a little about Chansiri, though... Gambling it all on one big push for survival, with the manager recommended to you by your school-age son... then it fails and you're left without a pot to piss in. I can see that happening.
-
I know people keep saying it but.......why was DM so stupid as to walk out on us to go there.
It's hard to say without knowing what bullshit he was fed by an obviously incompetent ownership.
-
Why bother about teams that voted against a salary cap and why not welcome other teams coming in for teams in that division who do go bust, if they go bang get rid they voted for it, why any sympathy I have no problem with teams like Derby and the Wendies being replaced by teams from lower in the pyramid.
They are just teams that hide behind the fact that they were once a force in the football world when in fact they are fifty years out of date.
-
The common denominator with virtually all of these failing clubs is bad or crooked ownership. I feel sorry for Wednesday, they are a big club and should be top half of the PL every year but have been unfortunate with recent owners. I fear worse to come for them yet sadly!
-
So not spending millions above what they can afford then Frankie, that to me is the common denominator.
Until there is a realisation that 32 million wage bills in the second tier are unsustainable nothing will be resolved and that's not just owners but fans who demand more aswell.
-
Im not sure, and its not my team so do not really care, but haven't they spent more time in the championship / div 2 than the top league, a bit like Leeds. I see them both as yo yo clubs.
With the right spending any club could be a top four club. Unfortunately, or fortunately the amount of fans you have makes little to no difference.
-

Oh no Pudding you’re right, overspending is a
Major problem and clubs who have over extended themselves deserve what they get but sadly that in itself is an example of bad management. Maybe not corrupt but equally as bad for fans. Once again the blame has to lie with the PL and the riches it bestows. Promotion for the three teams is worth £170m this year so it’s no wonder clubs extend themselves.
Wednesday aren’t done with suffering yet I think so it may be a while before they return to the greater heights. I actually think Donny have a good chance of doing well this year. I thought you’d make the play offs last year until DM departed but if you can keep the nucleus of the side together and Wellens can add one or two of quality, you should be well capable of a good season. Living in Barnsley myself now it will be almost a home game for me and I’m really looking forward to visiting the Keepmoat again.
-
We don't have a nucleus of our side and that's the main thing Wellens has to address in the transfer market.
-
Not having a nucleus of last seasons side could be construed as a bonus
-

Once again, thanks for the vote of confidence, Frankie. However, I doubt that we'd have made the play-offs if DM had stayed. Our form had been going down the pan well before he left. Bad signings in January and the departure of Ben Whiteman were the main reasons for that.
So it's almost a complete rebuild for RW, with only 12 contracted players at the club just now. However, I'm confident he'll do well, given his achievements in management up to now.
-
The biggest advantage Richie has is he will be left alone to just get on with it here and given time to do so at Doncaster.
Not many managers are afforded that luxury in football.
-
Ahh, the schadenfreude of seeing your erstwhile successful neighbours in the permashite.
This was them a decade ago.

That video is a true gem by the way.
Wilkinson: The Board int stopping me doing what I'm doing.
Gruff voice from the crowd: f**k all!
Then the bloke who a dozen times complains about players driving Bentleys. f**king Bentley's!
Then a fan shouts out that it's all bullshit and Wilkinson says "Right. Can we have all of you who think it's bullshit over THERE. And those who think it's not bullshit over THERE."
-

They're definitely not a top half PL club.
Probably somewhere between 20th and 25th biggest in England but this is a Doncaster Rovers forum so we don't obsess over how big our club is, we know it isn't the biggest but we know we can match bigger clubs on the pitch.
-
Players going on strike it seems over lack of pay. Tbh I'd not be too disappointed to see them go bump. It may make the football World in England sit up and realise the current set up and useless fit for purpose tests are killing football in this country
-
The cause of the problem is the same as the ESL. Bad owners. Whether Chansri is doing it for profit like the yanks is debatable but he’s certainly incompetent and risking the future of the club. Having some limit to the powers of owners to risk the clubs goes hand in hand with the talk following the ESL if more regulation and fan ownership.
-
Bookies have them and Sunderland to be promoted automatically. Think there will be a few above both of them.

My SW mucker says they look fooqued..................I just laughed!
For many years the notion of an implosion has been bandied around on a multitude of forums, but we all talk about “ those teams” , them “ mismanaged” teams!
and now is that time!
Let the implosions begin and bugger the fall out, this less than majestic pastime has run its course, and like the dodo clamouring for the last seat on the last rock should bade a dignified farewell.....
Now hurry up Richie and start filling the larder, we got new menus to sample and hungry mouths to feed,
-
We absolutely are in the shit. In fact, the rumour is that this is only the beginning.
What’s frustrating is that you could see this happening and yet could do nothing about it. How many clubs have gone for the big gamble and lost out? Too many to mention and we aren’t the first and won’t be the last.
What’s even more depressing is that the players we had last season were, on the whole, appalling and yet are likely to be replaced by even worse players!
As for us being a ‘big club’ it depends on what you base this. We have a large fan base, but that’s it. We’ve not had any real success for almost 30 years, our ground is falling apart, our owner is ‘eccentric’ to put it mildly and the team is total shit.

The club is an absolute joke, that said I’d hate for them to go to the wall, despite the Billy Big B*llocks attitude of quite a few of them.

That might be true the way the game is going, Les, but in the 60 odd years I've watched football, I've never known a club as big as Wednesdays fold.

We may support different clubs but at the same time we work hard all week to support our local club on a Saturday afternoon so in essence we are the same .
All the best off the field although you can stay in League One for the foreseeable for me .

Glasgow Rangers were liquidated.
That's true, Glyn, but they didn't have to go right to the bottom of the pyramid to start again, like so many phoenix clubs in England have had to.
They just had to start again in the Scottish League 4th tier.
-
Northern Counties East League then.
The question is though, what division.
-
We absolutely are in the shit.

I think you need to stay positive Owl. You are right though about it possibly getting worse. At Bolton we went from Europe in the PL to L2 and every time we went down we thought we couldn’t drop further but how wrong were we? It doesn’t matter how big the club is, or thinks it is, if you don’t have a good owner and good manager, anything can happen. Donny are a good example of how to do it sustainably and it’s just a shame managers have jumped at supposedly better things. I wish you well, you shouldn’t be down here but I do fear for you under your current ownership. As for your players, you still have a good nucleus and if DM can make a few good acquisitions you’ll be ok but on a personal note, why on earth did you let Kieran Lee go? He was absolutely brilliant for us last year and I can’t believe you had better. Anyway, sorry for being off topic Donny fans, I’ll shut up on neighbours now!!

Wages were 160% of income in 2019.
Don't know what more recent figures show, but that is heading only one way, unless the owner digs deep.
Reading were even worse, spending over 200% of income in wages.
We have a test for people looking to buy into a club, but the outstanding issue is how to regulate those who already own a club, and choose to head for the cliffs lemming like.
Here is the bonkers league table for the Championship;

Is madness a virus?

Reports today saying they owe £12m in player wages. Gonna need a big bucket for that whip round.

Some horrific numbers there.
I wonder what our numbers look like?

from some of the comments I've read we should've paid them to take him off our hands, no?
-
Will they start next season? and if they do in what sort of shape playing side wise? They were a great club just how has it come to this? along with other clubs they were among the first to help out Manchester United with players after their disaster and were one of the most respected clubs in the country along with the United across the city.
I have no sympathy at all for the present owners and as a club they represent everything that is wrong with the game now, but I have sympathy for their supporters who must be going through the ringer now.

Excellent!

If I was players, staff or fans, it would not fill me with any confidence at all.
-
My first question would be where he's got the money from to pay off £12m in wages.

I think the issue there is more him getting money into the club without breaking rules as opposed to actually having no money.
-
Unrelated but probably isn't worth starting a new topic for.
Jack Marriott has gone back to Peterborough today on a free after signing for Derby for 5? Million 3 years ago.
As it stands Derby have 12 players, 2 of which are Goalkeepers & no Centre Halves on their books.
Woops.
-
That turned into a good deal for Peterbro then.
-
Released their accounts today, at last. Lost £23m in the 19/20 season, dread to think what that number will be for the season just gone. Started last season with a £30m wage bill.

Don't worry the EFL won't let Wensdehs go out of business. They are not a small enough club.
