Title: Doncaster Rovers Programme Website *New*
Post by: hamiltonrover on June 03, 2021, 10:49:17 am
Hi Everyone,

For the past 6-8 weeks I have putting together a website which is in effect an archive to the history of Rovers programmes, complete back to 1950 and a host of others from before then.

Some of you may be familiar with the Flickr site I have, however, I will no longer be adding to that and using my own website instead to add updates.

I know it’s not for everyone, but a great look back at the history of our club.

If you spot anything that’s not quite right, let me know. The 19/20 and 20/21 seasons are not quite yet complete as I haven’t managed a trip back to Donny since lockdown restrictions were lifted, but that should happen in the next few weeks.

Click on the link below to view

https://www.doncasterroversfcprogrammes.com/

Hope you enjoy!

Cheers
Gavin

Very nice!

You've got the age-old problem when scanning magazines of shadowing, and also the other side of the page 'ghosting' through the paper. This can be removed - as well as the colours of the original being enhanced and restored - using the freeware GIMP.

If you're interested, would you like to send me a few images and I can show you how much they can improved?

Oh. I will check back on there many times. Love my programmes. Will get a couple more sent to me from the season that has just ended.

That is amazing Gavin
I wonder whatever happened to that young fresh faced lad on the cover of the Rotherham programme from 2006

Apparently, he went on to have quite a decent career !

Brilliant Gavin.

Would love to see a small section talking about some of the more random ‘difficult to find’ ones. Stuff like the Portsmouth newspaper (1980), Torquay postponed game (1991) etc etc.

Cheers Craig.

Probably something I could look to do, just in a list format, as all the scans/pictures are there already.

Fao Gavin. I have messaged you requesting info on a match from our non league days. Involving team near to me that I unbelievably did not go. Not into all this technology to find things out. Thanks.

Hello Gavin,

Brilliant pal and can I say thanks for all the help with all my research and procurement of all my collection you have provided in the past.

So fellow anoraks/ collectors where do we go from here? I am pushing 10.000 at least (not all Rovers, some other rarities, just quirky collections Irish Cup Finals etc. On average all have a profit value such as Accrington's last league game (first time), Third Lanark rarities, 1938-39 cup final, so until I get relegated to the shed for overcrowding "Its the programmes or you!" can we look to a way forward?
What about a Rovers swap/sell/exchange/buy forum? Rules- no exploitation but a fair price? I recently lost out on a Rovers v Villa 4th replay at WBA when I dropped out at over £230, same with a Bury frozen pitch special, and also Everton at home same 50's period. As Gavin said we are both missing the Rovers v Spurs 1947/48 home so god forbid if we are betting against each other, inevitable on e-bay for that one. I talk in extremes but collecting is a fun and rewarding hobby. What are folks thoughts about developing a wants/ needs forum within this?

Having purchased from Gavin via eBay a few times myself, and exchanged a few programme related PMs on here with him, I would be more than happy to help support pushing this idea forward in any way I can.

I’m definitely up for that SE. I’m on 4295 different Rovers programmes and am missing 6 since 1950.
Great idea to help each other out and between us working out a definitive Rovers programme guide.

Great site Gavin. That's an (expensive) labour of love and a half.

Cheers Glyn,

I will leave for the time being, the thought of scanning around 4000 programmes again might just send me over the edge.

When I initially started scanning them, I played about with the colours etc, but decided to leave them au naturale!

Absolutely brilliant Gavin

I wonder if the mods might either make a sticky of this thread, or if you yourself agree Gavin, maybe put the link on directly somewhere?

Can we make this a sticky up at the top, along with the videos thread??

We can, but wouldn't the obvious place for this be in the For Sale/ wanted section?

Cheers Danum.

Glad you like it, the 19/20 and 20/21 seasons will be updated in the next couple of weeks, and then it’s on to finding those elusive few and also next season.

Season 19/20 and 20/21 now updated, along with the addition of a couple that were on my wanted list.
Season 20/21 was arguably one of the most challenging as a collector, with games behind closed doors, some clubs produced programmes, some didn’t, however for those that didn’t I managed to obtain a teamsheet which was some challenge with one or two clubs!!

Enjoy
