''‘The sea was milky white’: how the Southern Water sewage scandal unfolded''
What a sorry tale of deception, greed and mimanagement.
''Local councils and the Environment Agency (EA) were puzzled; they checked local farms and industries, and asked Southern Water if it had any information. But the data from the utility company was clear: no large scale pollution incidents had taken place from its treatment plants, it said.
It was only when Stephen Bailey, a tenacious local agency official, decided to take a closer look at the wastewater treatment plants run by Southern which fed into the seas off north Kent that the truth began to emerge''

I can't think why the EU refuses to take our untreated shellfish.
-
because they're just that ....................... shellfish haha

this company have been doing this trick since 2005 according to wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_Water
This is a kind of fraud-theft and someone ought to go to jail for this
endangering bathers on the southern beaches
me thinks a class action ought to be brought against this company by people who have caught things bathing in the water around there.
the phrase "industry standard" is often used was this industry standard meaning they are all up to it
2005-2007 they said ... "Today's announcement draws a line under a shameful period in the company's history" and "we accept this fine - we have no arguments with it".[12]
deja vu ... happened many more times

Seen this on the news the other night. The people running the company should be sent to Prison

Absolutely they should and the shellfish companies affected should litigate the company out of existence.

We are in a pretty bad way when it comes to waste disposal in general in this country. We are shipping huge amounts of plastic abroad, which is ending up not being recycled properly. But countries are Clamping down and refusing to take it, meaning we have a bit of a waste disposal crisis looming.

Night shift report:
''Why are England’s water companies pumping out a tide of sewage? Because they can
George Monbiot''
''Even in the wake of the sentence last week, under which Southern Water was fined £90m, the company’s own maps show a continued flow of raw filth into coastal waters. Same shit, different day. The only occasions on which water companies are allowed by law to release raw sewage are when “exceptional rainfall” overwhelms their treatment works. But the crap keeps coming, rain or no rain''

I wonder how many MPs are on the Board or 'paid advisors' to get away with it?
