Not surprising really, the price cap remains in place and the wholesale price of gas remains elevated.
Why the government thinks this high gas price is only a temporary spike, I don't know. It's only the Autumn and it hasn't started getting cold yet!
Somehow I doubt a few weeks of subsidy for industry close to collapse is going to be anywhere near enough. Its looking like another massive bailout will be required, how often can we keep doing this?

Do it once by nationalising them

One of them is being named as neon reef. Which is a crime as they were only last week offering deals to entice new customers. We moved to them, assuming a company in a dire situation could not be legally/morally be taking on new customers at will. That’ll be the forth company in 12 months for us, Spark energy Collapsed as did GNE, EDF then put us a tariff of 26p per kw from 14.5p, so we moved to neon reef at 19.5 per kw just last week. God knows what we will be paying next week, we are still owed money by GNE after they collapsed. What a mess.

How many have gone bust since 2016, how many does the UK need, how many have left the industry and how many remain?
34 bust
8 have left the market
Don't know how many are left but why were/are there so many? easy money?

The plethora of companies was meant to bring competition to the energy market but as we can see now, that was a mirage.
They all use the same infrastructure and charge the same product. There is no real competition.
-
Am I right in saying that none of these companies actually produce the product they are selling? They are only the 'middlemen' selling someone else's product to the public - for what they thought would be a nice mark up?

I'm with " Look after my bills", since their impressive appearance on "Dragon's Den". They've been great for the last 3 years, but now their phones are down and I've been put back with British Gas.
I fear the worse, and I honestly believe that Nationalisation of the energy business could be a vote winner for either party in 2024.

What would nationalising it do? Pass the cost on to the consumer or taxpayer..nationalising them does not make up for the lack of infrastructure or alternative, it's not the right approach.

It worked for the railways, considering the lack of quality, efficiency, and reasonable fares since it went private.

Yea right, the water industry's showing us how a 'shit show' should be run as well.

Well for a start, nationalisation would mean that the water companies would no longer be paying out the £60bn in dividends that has leaked out of the system in the past 30 years. That would pay for a lot of infrastructure.
