Penny for Rayners thoughts right now
I’m sure like everyone else she will be horrified, a man is fighting for his life, this is not the time to have a sly dig at someone
-
Unfortunately has died

Blimey, that’s really low. No need at all.
As an advocate of democracy, I believe that we need face to face access to our parliamentary representatives. Much more importantly, as a human being I hope and pray he pulls through.

RIP. :(

Every life lost in this manner is a tragedy and I am sure Angela Rayner will agree!

Disgraceful. Using someone's death for political point scoring.
What an appaling tragedy for someone just doing his job. Thoughts with his family at this terrible time - and all other MP's who put themselves in this situation.
You want to create division and hatred - like at least two people in this thread - then this is the result. Appalling comments.

In LDR’s defence (slightly), the poor chap wasn’t pronounced dead at the time he posted. Perhaps he may reflect and respond differently.
I’m not sure who else has made ‘appalling comments’ though.
Absolutely tragic that this could happen to someone just trying to do some good in society.
-
Absolutely shocking.
Knife crime is beyond ridiculous now in this country.
He was one of the good ones as well although i would not wish this on anyone of course.
R.I.P.
-
Christ this is awful. Easy to vilify politicians. And the danger is that this is where it ends up. Shocking.
-
Society now is just too dangerous. The whole structure of the judicial system and the Police needs to change drastically, otherwise we'll end up with a vigilante society.

We are blessed in This country that we have access to our political representatives, in every constituency, blue, red, yellow or green.
This is another sad day. That’s two killed in five years while serving their community.

I fear that access might now become somewhat limited, NR. It would be expensive having a copper on duty at every surgery, but that might be the only safe option.

Senseless violence, but that's what violence is, always. A tragedy for him, his family and his community.

... and even if you had where do you draw the line. Inside the Surgery or on the way there AND back
And what about all the photo shoots , village fetes , ribbon cuttings - I dont think it possible. This MP was a regular on London to Southend train and there's no way a Pc could be with him the whole time
I have no sensible suggestions , certainly no solutions just a real sadness for the second time recently

Terrible news
-
Absolutely senseless and tragic with the motives yet to come to light .
I mention motives because I feel it's massively important that they do come to light .
This country is massively fractured and divided with a political system that in my opinion is in need of major reform .
It does not excuse the murder of this man what so ever let me make that perfectly clear .
My point is that if a country's political system is broken then it tends to lend itself to tragedies like these .
Until the facts come to light it's probably best I leave it at that .
However do think that if our political system is exploited to create the division we see today then these kind of tragedies may happen again .

Since 1979 6 UK MP’s have been murdered, before that you have to go back to 1922
-
All 6 have been killed by terrorist.
This does not in any way reflect trends in wider society.

3 killed at constituents surgeries
-
Yes but all by terrorists.

Point being the real threat to MPs' safety appears to be political radicalisation, not a problem of violence in society. General violent crime is much lower today than it was in recent decades.
