Title: If there was a general election tomorrow...
Post by: Axholme Lion on November 04, 2021, 11:49:58 am
...who would you vote for considering the Brexit issue is now more or less settled and Boris/Carrie have turned out to be lefties in disguise?

I would vote Green but last time they made a pact with the Libs not to put a candidate in our constituency.

The greens will never get any sort of hold on power while ever they have a proposed people’s vote to re join the Eu on their manifesto.

Realistically NR, I don't think the Greens will ever get a sniff of power but every vote they do get sends a message.

Ours is a tory area and the opposition is split fairly evenly between Libs and Lab. If there was a pact then they might get the tory out, in that scenario I'd vote for whoever was the opposition candidate.

Interesting not much support for the LibLabCon scammers. Reform and Reclaim look interesting but seem to be on the same page as each other. If they could cut a deal with each other they may be worth a punt. Boris has done the job with Brexit but other than that is a waste of space.

They will never get near power till the 850,000 of those voting [2.7 %] give them fair representation

850 k votes got them 1 Seat using FPTP wheras PR would have given them almost 18 seats

Remember UKIP's four million votes to get one seat in 2015. Regardless of your political point of view that can't be seen as right and fair.

Agreed. I said so at the time and I've been a supporter of PR for decades. Our system is totally undemocratic.

My vote is pretty pointless around here as there is always a Tory majority, national, local, police, etc. I once asked someone I worked with if he was going to vote in a local election:

'Yes. One of my ancestors died trying to get the vote for ordinary people'.

I always vote.

I don't think I've ever voted where my really counted. In Labour majority areas, at the time there was no doubt who would win. In Tory areas the same. I've never lived in anything close to being marginal.

I don't have a clue. We know next to nothing what the opposition's would do in most cases bar not what the others have done wrong.  Course we will learn that in time.

I can only see myself voting Green of the major parties at the moment.

Maybe not but it stops parties like the National Front getting any power.
Our system is far from perfect but it is better than the alternative believe me. It really is.

If people want to vote for The National Front then they should be represented. No one currently is represented other than those who voted Tory. Take the Don Valley constituency, 25,828 voters votes ended up meaning nothing, under a form of PR it could mean everyone's vote means something.

But if someone continually votes and never sees any representation in any form for their choice whatever it may be then the FPTP systems will only alienate them and maybe think what's the point in voting in any case and that can't be good. I reckon if ANY party of ANY colour gets  four million votes then it deserves some representation. I would also take this view if it was a party i oppose.

Yep - that was my point really

If either of UKIP / Greens got the share of Seats their share of vote deserved - via PR - then they would prosper more [virtuous circe] as people realised their vote was the equal of every other vote in the country

Leaving Belarus to their antiquated FPTP

Given that Labour will effectively help out the Tories by voting for any Covid measure they care to introduce, is this the perfect time for a party like Reform to really shake up this stale, authoritarian political establishment?

I can't vote for Labour ever again. Reform for me.

Axholme the pint you raise is valid. I raised it in another thread. I would suggest that a large majority of voters vote in lost causes

It’s totally wrong. Every vote should count for something.  The only problem is the main parties are happy because they’re safe

Maybe if things stay the same the Labour Party might come out in support of it in some way as I believe they are dead in the water as things stand

I know the opinion polls suggest different but when it comes to crunch time the likes of Corbin and Raynor will cost them dearly in my view

Too many Labour MPs like Rayner, Lammy, Corbyn et al for them to win. Just because they might get in cities, middle England wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

haha so Boris is finally seen as the lying, cheating, fraud he is, and of course it's because he's a secret lefty.

Of course, if you knew anything about his family or upbringing, you'd know that's a load of horse shite that could have come from the blond nob himself - he's let the right wing of the Tories rule him throughout his awful tenure, and wouldn't be seen dead with a true left.
