Title: Barry Sheerman MP
Post by: phil old leake on December 05, 2021, 12:33:39 pm
He’s the longest serving MP in parliament and is retiring after 42 yrs at the age of 81

My question is should people of that age be allowed to stay in Parliament or should parties move on to younger candidates

I have no particular thoughts on it. Just thought it might provoke a debate

I think you should judge people's capability to do the job rather than age personally .

If the electorate didn't want old people in Parliament they wouldn't vote for them.

I think you need a range of people in Parliament, young and old, male and female, gay & straight, etc, because then they can talk from personal experience about issues which affect people like them/all of us.

You would expect he has still being making a decent fist of his job or people wouldn't vote for him you'd hope. Why should you retire just because of your age? I fully intend to keep working as long as possible.
