Good stuff. Nice to hear he wanted it all along. Frustrated hearing our recruitment will be free signings again. We limit ourselves when that's the case. Look at Burton last season they should be our comparison and they spent some money to bring in the right, quality players to keep them up.

I think that's fine, you're not going to get quality at this time of year in our position on our budget, only the big clubs will get that.  There are definitely good options out there.  I suspect one is O'Toole from Mansfield he's out of contract next week and linked in their press with us previously this month.  He'd fit the experienced defensive midfielder perfectly.

He speaks well again, as he often does GM.  Getting that coaching/mentoring part done quickly is really important.

He didn’t say free did he.?  Thought he mentioned players on short term contracts or surplus to requirements at their clubs, and then loans?

Apologies if I misheard..

Sounded like ones that would be out of contract soon or be paid up, ala Bogle.

Good interview, impressive stuff.
Still preferred some experience but 100% behind him.
Think Culuk, Vilca and maybe Dahlberg will be going back based on that.

A couple of permanent contracts from players who may be coming to the end of contracts.
No players coming in then that we “buy”.

True, and that may mean most would be transfer fee free in reality.

To be honest it doesn’t matter if they are free or if we have to pay something - if they become the right players then that’s the main issue..

Not sure why we would let Dahlberg go - we must have two keepers immediately ready for first team football so he would need a replacement either loan again or permanent.  Plus he’s a full international.

We have higher priorities certainly.

Vilca and Cukur I expect would leave.

Great interview.

Breath of fresh air compared to RW.
Calm, measured and re assuring voice. You would want to play for this guy. The more I hear from him the calmer I feel.
That is what the players need after Richie. A calm measured approach.

Think Richie managed to create a fear culture. The players were scared to express themselves in case they made a mistake. Not deliberate of course.
His heart was in the right place he genuinely wanted DRFC to be successful and loved the club. He just is not a man manager.

The players we bring in will be driven by Younger and the recruitment team which GMC is part of. As GMC says that’s what Younger is paid for. The targets are on short term contracts now or are available from their contracts as permanents

You get has been nothing short of a joke so far so I don’t hold my breath. Oh and if all the current signings were “Richie’s fault” then what has younger been doing?

Thanks for posting this.

Surely this has to be music to the ears for those with any doubts the direction we want to go.

This also answers those who were sceptical about his approach to 'wanting' the job. We said at the time, he was very smart the way he was very carefully chose his words, giving him some breathing space and time to think about things. Once again, this shows what an intelligent individual he is, and for me, it could be we have another SO'D in the making. That doesn't mean everything is going to be rosy. It takes all sorts of contributions and hard work by a team of people to improve the performance of the team so you can imagine, people and players will buy into him.

Fair do's, I said the same about Darren Moore however, I think it was off the pitch stuff that DM struggled with, but clearly his on the pitch stuff was enough to attract attention from elsewhere. I expect GM, from what he's shown so far, will be more comfortable with the circus that surrounds the stage.

Time to stop panicking, if anyone was inclined to. Understand where we are and applaud every positive step towards every point that gets us out of the relagation zone. This season is not over until it's over.

That’s the point, in the interview GMC he talks about Youngers role in getting players for January. Therefore he must have had the same role in the summer along with agreement with the recruitment team. Yet it sets the agenda to blame Richie.
At least if the recruitment is not good in January the same agenda can’t be said against GMC.

Technically you buy every player. The terms may differ and certainly you don't want to be paying 'fees' when fees can be avoided and put towards other acquisitions. All players care about is their contract terms and conditions.

History should tell you there are far more good players that have come through the door without us paying a transfer fee to start of with.

Does anyone know the dates that
Yoinger was appointed?
The dates when Close, knoyle, Hiwula Williams and Rowe were signed?

It seems to me like he's looking to fetch in some experienced players which is exactly what we need even if we have to use some of the kids it will be a dam sight better if they've got an old head at the side of them to talk them through the game. I know Wellens inherited some crap but he went straight out and spunked most of his budget on Close and Hiwula we need better than this to stay up

I’ll put my colours on the mast now - I’m a fence-sitter on this one. Desperately want him to succeed, obviously, and am slightly concerned by his lack of experience at a time such as this. But he is the appointed guy and I will support him. As regards this interview, he’s already won me over a little bit by simply not having a godawful Manc accent. Yeah, I can be shallow sometimes!

Yeah, I guess it's just wait and see. The Irish league season has finished now and players over there are out of contract in a few days so we potentially might be looking over there. Worked OK with Sadlier and a few other teams have done well with them. Wouldn't be against players like Georgie Kelly, Patrick Hoban, Rory Gaffney, Darragh Burns or John Mahon.

You sound as though you know the Irish league D O
Who do they play for and what positions do they play? How old are they? Are they all out of contract?

Lot of questions but assume you have not pulled those names out of a hat and have some knowledge.

Just based on their data profiles really. The first two are goalscorers, the next two are creative attacking mids/wingers then the last ones a defender. Mixture of ages and teams and I believe they're out of contract based on Transfermarkt but that isn't always 100% correct. I definitely think there's value in LOI in January that we'd struggle to find elsewhere due to the contracts ending.

Well hardly going to do himself down is he?

Difference to Wellens is in the ethos and approach.

We can but wait and see.

I like the new manager. He seems to have something about him.

They way he explained his strategic thinking was good and I really liked the way he passed the recruitment hot potato straight over to the TIM guy. No more hiding behind the Manager for you Mr Younger.

From what Hoden says, and the way his tone changes when pushed on a point, you can tell he's got a bit of an edge to him.

Lets just hope Bobbins at Cov can keep up his good work and they don't come calling for GMc for a long, long time.
