Post by: Branton Rover on December 29, 2021, 04:50:32 pm
In the GM interview he said looking at experienced players who are surplus to requirements & given O’Brien was offered to us in August he could fit that bill.

Is he any good.  I don’t know I’ve never seen him play as far as I’m aware

Smacked of desperation when the Grigg signing fell through. If you look at Wellens pre season signings apart from Rowe, Galbraith they've been mostly been rubbish to be honest

10 goals in 12 years for his country.
5 goals in 45 appearances for Sunderland.
He is a Millwall boy at Heart, who loaned him out for a few seasons.
42 senior career goals in 11 years.
Hardly prolific.

O’Brien has a similar player profile to Bogle.
Same age.
Period of loans from parent club etc.
This is the pond we are fishing in though. In the hope that they miraculously become a Billy Sharp.

We found a gem in Marquis, this guy there’s no reason he can’t develop the same.
If we could afford it, I would be going for him and Marquis. If we really want to stay in this league, we will need to put a decent amount of money in and we need to spend wisely the funds given.

Some players won’t join us because we are second bottom.
The club needs a lot of reorganisation looking from the outside.

O’Brien is 28, he won’t be developing at all. You would think that Marquis would have clubs queueing up to take him on far higher wages than we could afford.

Agreed. I doubt that JM would want to come back here after the way he left.
