I found this story on the Washington Post front page and then got the link from CBS. It's worth watching the slow climb into the story and understand why people visit Mount Airy, it puts on show the yawning gap between what these people think and reality, if you don't have the patience then start at around 10 minutes in.

 What fascinates you so much Syd about the way people think in the US and UK when you live so far away in Aus. You must have some nut jobs down there, if you ask the neighbours I bet they can tell you of some close by.
