Title: Homophobia
Post by: belton rover on January 08, 2022, 07:41:31 pm
I was sat in the south stand today, behind the goal, half way up.
Behind me, from kick off was a foul mouthed lad, whom I’ve seen before, relentlessly abusing (mostly) our players/team. This person clearly had some form of learning difficulty, and with that in mind, I very patiently tried to ignore it, though it really was the worst kind of language, though nothing homophobic at this stage.
In the second half, it continued. Eventually, with us losing and their keeper time wasting, this chap bellows ‘get a move on keeper with pink boots on, you gay Kitson’. This angered me, but hoped it was a one off. A few minutes later, same time wasting, same comment.
I walked down to the nearest steward, explained what I was listening to, explained that I thought that he had learning difficulties, but that it was still unacceptable. The stewards were superb. I said that I thought education was the answer rather than arrest and charges. I left it with them and they escorted him through to the concourse.

Then came the real problem. One older gentlemen sat on the same row as the first guy, but not with him, quite respectfully looking, then shouted ‘get up you queen’ to a Fleetwood player time wasting. He then said are you gonna kick me out for saying queen? Thought not.’
I approached this guy and asked him if he thought that language was appropriate. He said it was a football match and I should be ashamed about getting a man with learning difficulties ejected. I asked him again if he thought it was appropriate, to which he opened his arms out and said again, ‘we are at the football’. I told him that he was far worse than the man who’d just been removed, and called him a homophobic t**t. He then complained to a steward that I had called him a t**t. The steward thankfully saw him for what he was and the steward and I had a chat about the evicted lad being offered education.

If anybody wonders why football players still can’t come out.
This.

There's certainly a long way to go?

Cavallo says those who abused him should be held accountable''

You handled that well Belton.

Though you have to wonder what sort of society we are to have taught a person with learing difficulties it is OK to be homophobic in public.

Well done BR. If more people acted in this manner, the world would be a better place. Footy matches are places to be vocal but not to be discriminatory to anyone.
Sounds like the stewards have played their part too. more of this please.

Yes, well done Belton.

Most would have said nothing, even if annoyed, just to avoid an argument.
But that is the way it carries on, unless it gets challenged.

You are right about the older fella being worse, if he does not have the same issues as the lad before him.
"We are at the football" is not a reason to be abusive, not an excuse for behaviour you would not like to receive yourself.

And thatcher gets a guernsey too, it appears everyone in British society needed to be taught a lesson from thatcher at some time or other.

Wherever the tory party is there is sure to be backwards divisive laws to show the world what a bunch inward looking self centred bigots they are and to divide the population against each other. I wonder what the lgbtqa section of the tory party thought about section 28?

Well handled belton. You did absolutely the right thing. It’s not only the person receiving such abuse what about gay people sat in this clowns (learning difficulties or not) vicinity.

As for the older bloke, many people in your position may well have just shook their head & left it at that. The fact you confronted him to is to your credit even though his response must have had you gritting your teeth you can’t educate ‘a lost cause’.

Credit to the stewards too.

Let me get this right old fruit!
It’s not ok to call someone gay
But it is ok to call someone a clown?

I’d say calling someone a clown is extremely derogatory! (In these times mind)

This from someone who in the topic ‘Downing Street Party’ refers to Laura Kuensberg as “wobbly-gob”.

There are many people who have been left with facial palsy after suffering TIA (a minor stroke……….save you turning to google), your description (for want of a better word) of her ‘condition’ is outrageous & not only a cowardly & ignorant insult to her but to all other sufferers of such an infliction.

I’ve asked you once in a ‘quoted post’ on that topic to remove your post & I’ll repeat that ‘request’ again now.

I’m under no illusions that you’re not man enough to do so & will instead come back with ……some…..typical….banal…repost.

I’ll let other posters make up their minds about the type of poster/person you are, I already know.

No I guess not, however Colin C ( cock) used the word” CLOWN”  in reference to a guy with probable learning difficulties……… and in these days of correct labelling I guess some may find that offensive?

Seems to be creeping back into football.

Both Wycombe and Oxford are investigating homophobic abuse at their match yesterday and Cheltenham are also now investigating incidents at their game with Charlton.
