Title: John Barnes
Post by: phil old leake on January 09, 2022, 10:45:03 am

What an absolutely sensible person with a realistic adult attitude to the subject at hand.  In my view these links are definitely worth a listen to

I’m sure there will be some on here that will immediately ignore his radical views and go off on their own biased one view point of view with the intention of deliberately causing arguments and raise issues that have nothing to do with the thread

We all know who they are

Congratulations to John Barnes for raising issues in a sensible way that does not disenfranchise anyone and would allow people to discuss rather than been told.

So why are you posting it phil, you've finally found someone that agrees with you?

It sounds like satire to me

This is a better constructed interview.

''John Barnes on racism and society: ‘There are invisible banana skins’''

Thanks for trying again Sydney

As my grandma used to say if you have nothing to say then don’t

Well actually phil you say nothing except trying to pre-empt what others might say, very hound or football forum I may say.

''“The only way to destroy racism is to destroy capitalism,” Barnes writes. At the same time he is too much of a pragmatist to suggest some idealised socialist state will suddenly emerge. Barnes, instead, finds hope in the aim we can still be educated about the way we all carry ingrained prejudice – whether in terms of racism, sexism or issues of class, gender and religion''

The second bit of this is on the money but the first bit makes no sense, I'd like to hear what you have to say about it phil?

And a comment about this would be good too phil
......................... '' I got an interview with one of them. But the wider point is there are 30% black players in English football. Maybe there should be 10% black managers? Maybe 30%?”

Politics and sport in another debate , wow who knew .

I've seen John Barnes twice at Oakwell , firstly in 1982 when he was a young kid under Graham Taylor at Watford .

And when he was nearing the end of his career at Newcastle in the PL in 1997 .

He was a magnificent footballer on both occasions , absolute class .

Sometimes it's best to stick to what you know .

John Barnes got one of the biggest jobs in the UK at Celtic .

He wasn't very good .

John Barnes, even on those snippets from YouTube, has gone way up in my estimation.

I’ll be buying his book on the strength of it.
