Just wondering if agard was one of the two signings who had to secure there release or is there another two players coming in on permanent contracts. I ask this as shards contract was due to end so he wouldn’t have had to secure is release?
-
Another player we are linked to is contracted to his club until the 22nd of Jan.
-
Only GM and the board know
-
Possibly not one of the 2 as I think they needed to sort there release from their contract out but agard is out of contract
-
He was on a short term contract
-
Just watched GM interview and I’m sure he said Agard only became available last week.
-
Think he will have been one of our 1st choices. Seems like he's signed as soon as he left his last club. Not a panic signing like Dodoo. Reality check in what we can expect for some who were hoping for Marquis

Reality check .. , when your club has signed the most pathetic caliber of player found any where already , even Marquis would question the decision to come back here !!

Listening to McSheffrey it’s very clear that this is one that suddenly became available and we pounced on that. Credit to the club for that. McSheffrey describes it as the first of some good ones so, encouragingly (and crucially) we can expect more arriving soon.

It may be true that the board haven't made the wisest of signings in the last 18 months but anything has to be an improvement. Let's give Agard a chance before judging him. Fans criticising a new player before they have even kicked a ball is pretty pathetic. Good luck to him.

I hope he’s prepared for the ‘pathetic calibre’ of so called supporter that we have.
Personally think this is a great signing well done everyone involved
-
I'm sure they will have been aware of Agard, but it could be the situation where GMs first choice may be dithering, so they've moved quickly to sort this one out.
Obviously there's still work to do but it eases the pressure somewhat in getting the main priority through the door. Hopefully, the second priority follows very shortly.
Maybe a couple of quality loans to follow then in the final wash up of the window, there could be opportunities to shuffle the pack even more.

We needed an experienced striker who has a track record of scoring goals at this level.
That is exactly what we have got. What is there to complain about?
-
We need to be cautious with signings this month. It would be easy to give out deals to players, get relegated, then better players become available in the summer. We could really damage next seasons promotion hopes in the next two weeks or so.

Other than the odd isolated comment I haven’t really seen any complaining. Most seem to recognise this is a decent start to what we need. Though I don’t doubt the Netto brigade are at it somewhere. I’ve tended to mute the main protagonists on social media otherwise they seemed to be appearing on my timeline despite not following them.

I might have missed this, but with Wellens going and GMc bringing Bogle back into the fold, do we take it that there isn't such an emphasis to move Bogle on now?
And slightly OT, what about Ed Williams, what an earth has happened to him?

If we drop a league is there a chance that Williams may move up the playing order....

We don't know of GMs assessment of Bogle, whether he sees him as the future. I kinda hope we can do better and maybe he could be a last minute departure and be replaced by someone with better potential.
Williams is the new invisible man.

Indeed. There's a real gamble whatever you do. Look at Bogle this time last year, it didn't work out that one really. Go short and it's "cheap option" but go a longer deal and it fails and they get questioned ok why they signed them...

Perhaps contracts where there is an option to extend deals if things work out should be the way ahead... keeps the player hungry and allows the club to hold on to players who are performing...
-
Let’s face it a lot of our players are playing for their future at drfc whether it be in league on or two
-
We should have a strong team going into league 2 next season, I cant see a queue of clubs to cherry pick any of our players
-
I meant in terms of out of contract players

This notion of "keeping players hungry" with short term deals, that gets mooted a lot on here, doesn't really work. Simply because if you offer a player a 6-month deal with an option, odds are he/his agent can find a longer deal with another club and the player will almost always opt for that bit of stability.
Permanent signings coming in this month should be on 18 month deals with an eye to them being good signings for us next season as much as improving us now. Agard fits this bill and I hope other acquisitions are of a similar ilk.

The fat lady may be getting warmed up but she certainly ain’t singing yet

I'm not sure why you quoted me - I never mentioned 6 month deals......... YOU did.
-
I quoted you because I was responding to your post...and making a point about short-term deals. It's really not a big issue, just adding to the discussion.
-
Players are just like us, they want as much security in a contract at work as they can get. I would like to see incentives in every contract but I’m sure they are already in the contract’s.

Oh OK - the fact you also "quoted" part of my post, suggested to me that you were referring directly to my post........ and making a point :ermm:
-
...I just said I was responding to your post.
This place is getting so difficult to bother with, honestly.
